a feature I'd like to have in QW

(carnage) #21

a feature like would be good if it worked in the same way as when players request ammo and you can see the postion you need to go to on the compass

i think something like that where every player can request just about anything and mark all enemys would have great potential for pub matches and defiantly give players wanting to work more as a team opatunites to do so

I don’t know if it’s such a good idea, in my opinion it would undermine the idea of the covert ops deploying radar installations. I could imagine (and would like to see) that all enemy units the covert ops ‘sees’ are automatically displayed on the teams-radar (like it is in Enemy Territory).
To give all classes the ability to ‘spot’ enemies kind of takes something away from the covert ops class, who’s responsible for reconnaissance.

Same for the other classes: If someone could place a marker somewhere saying ‘Mines suspected’ it’s nearly as good as having them revealed already (besides, maybe there will a notice saying ‘Mines have been reported in this area.’ like in Enemy Territory, anyway). If someone else besides the field ops can ‘mark’ an area for artillery-fire, what real purpose does he still have besides ‘pulling the trigger’?

What I like about Enemy Territory (and from what I read and saw about Enemy Territory as well) is that every class has different tasks to fulfill, choosing a class isn’t just selecting a weapons loadout. Why should an engineer spot enemy troops? Why should a medic assign possible targets for artillery? And so on…

Even with voice communication you cannot pinpoint the exact location of the enemy advancing - and I guess in teamchat your current location will be shown when you write Incoming!’, so everyone will know where to look for the ‘incoming’ enemy approximately - and this is fine. As I said, I’d like to select a class, not just a weapons loadout.

if you can’t get your team to spec you quietly on a server (and on voice comms) for 15 minutes while you show them tactics for a map, then you won’t get them to use any features like this.

if people are dedicated they will listen and study, if not, there isn’t a program in the world that would make them change their minds

get them on some voice comms, join the server. if you’re “tactics lesson” is disrupted by some member (or anyone going MIA just 5 minutes before), then boot them off the clan  simple as that. “If you don’t want to listen then you prolly don’t want to play either”

oh and btw, 12 vs 12? ahah i won’t ever play a clangame that requires 12 active members (+ reserves). the headaches i would have. no way! 6vs6!

Ding ding ding! Finally, someone with some sense! I bet you’ve actually had experience with clan play on a competitive level instead of playing at lan parties after school

flame post number 2!!! continue, you are going well! thanks for the clever intervents in this discussion

What the heck, not everyone belongs to a competitive clan. There are people that just play for fun in pub server. Sometimes, you see people asking for an engineer but you can’t tell WHERE they need an engineer. Did they step over a mine? Do they want you to destroy the command post? Or the tank barrier?
I wonder if the solo assignment system would help address this issue.

wonderful, I second this.

(Nail) #27

afaik, when you call for an engi, it shows your grid location
btw, the whole thread is about CLAN usage, not pub

(TheKaiser) #28

Do you seriously think players in a pub will want to sit around for 5 minutes before a map and watch some random person boss them around in a fly by before every map?

Maybe you don’t know what a flame is? Keep trying though, you’ll get it right!.

(MastroLindo) #29

you have understood everything,how amazing!
read->think->post
that’s the right order

(TheKaiser) #30

Refer to quote in my post. Simple as that!

(kamikazee) #31

The longer I read this thread, the more I doubt it’s right of existence. Maybe that’s just me though.

To recap: we’re discussing the addition of a feature here, which will be rarely used, take a bunch of work to get right and might not even make the final game because there’s a mighty fine chance it will be forgotten about when the devs see how many other work they got to do?

(TheKaiser) #32

That about sums it up.

(Nail) #33

plus, you can already do it with existing software, like i said, no need in game

(Joe999) #34

awesome kamikazee, you should do these sum-ups for other threads as well, saved me a lot of reading time

(vcs2600) #35

Well, I would like to see the grid system replaced with a description of the location in the chat, although that would be more difficult to program.

I think that would help everyone, clan or pub.

(TheKaiser) #36

You mean for deployments? What’s hard about “If it’s green, you can place it, if it’s red, you can’t?”

(kamikazee) #37

No, he means location code which shows you place names instead of command map coordinates in the chat and fireteam popups. ETPro has this, AFAIK.

(TheKaiser) #38

ahhh ok ok
