A 1on1 map for ET needed!

I really think that someone has to make a good duel map for ET. I stress the word good because in my opinion RtCW missed a good one (well few good ones, but none of them good enough to show clearly who’s better). However I lack the skill of mapping and I’d like someone else, who already knows about mapping and stuff, to do this for me, and for the whole community. I know that this has been up on many peoples mind, but I’d just like to express my opinion what a duel-map should include.

Here’s a short list:

  • No spawn-killing should be possible.
  • The map should not encourage on camping (like badplace does imo). Disabling footsteps on some surfaces would may be a good idea.
  • A playing-intelligence should be in big role.
  • No support @ leaners ^^
  • The map should be equal for both players.
  • The situation after the players have had an encounter should be equal for both players, so that the winner of the first fight would not rule the whole round.

Then there are some things that I don’t have clear opinion for, like that should the winning player of the first encountering do a /kill to gain full health, or just collect some medpacks. Or that should there be an objective (like holding a flag in koth-test), or just free-fragging. I hope that someone takes this as a project and that people would share their ideas, please :rolleyes:

I hope when people eventaully start designing maps they kep the 25min time limit I like the ability to regroup after an attack, RTCW rounds seem so short.

why do people complain about camping? isn’t that what the flamer/panzer is for? aswellas grenades (rifles?)?

my map is a cityfight, and it has loads of places for mgs to go.

tough if you cant’ use a panzer or grenade rifle :bump:

It’s objective play, and for the defense, camping is necessary. However, what the Topic Creator suggests, is a map suitable for smaller groups, ie, not quite a full blown objective map.

Apparently I didn’t tell this clear enough. I want a map where two people (or possibly four can play 2on2) can play 1on1-matches. The purpose of the map would be to find out which of the two players is better on close-combats. In RtCW there are known 1on1-maps like gsduel, badplace, valhalla, koth-test and some ohters. I know that there will be a great demand for a map like this and eventually someone will make one, but it isn’t any good if the map doesn’t work. That’s why I created this thread.

Ps: there’s nothing wrong with camping, but for 1on1 it’s not quite suitable, at least in my opinion. If you have some thoughts about this, please share 'em.

kothtest for et should be pretty easy to do. If you have suggestions of how you would like it to be different, I might give it a go. Never really been into dueling myself, so I don’t know what makes a good duel map.

Spawncamping could be completely eliminated by by randomly enabling and disabling spawn points in different locations (imagine kothtest with several different spawn rooms on each end).

I see a lot of servers running ctfmultidemo and kothtest. Do people like having the objective, or do they just ignore it ? Neither of those were really made with dueling in mind (they are just to demonstrate some mapping ideas), so what would your ideal objective be, if there was going to be one ?

Hmmm, maybe I should go play on one of those servers :stuck_out_tongue:

ctfmultidemo is the most popular custom map for RTCW, it would make sense to have someone port it over to ET (unchanged plz :))

kothtest is good too, however the random osp spawns killed the gameplay.

The .map is included in the pk3, anyone who gets the urge is quite welcome to do it. :smiley:

I’ve never played ctfmultidemo :confused:
But anyway, the problem of koth-test in my opinion is that if the respawn-times are different it often supports the other side, which makes it a bit uneven. My personal favourite is Valhalla. I’d suggest the mapmaker to get familiar with different kind of duelmaps and try to find their good and bad sides. But if one can make a koth-test like map where respawn-times are always the same and both sides respawn exactly the same time randomly I’d be happy. It’d also be nice to have some objects like trees or boxes on the ground so that players can dodge among them (they exist in game, don’t they?) and some other changes maybe, I’m not sure yet what those would be.

Btw, when does trickjump for ET come out? :beer:
(I know that they have made some changes that disable the ability to do the panzah-jump for example)

I made a 1v1 map for wolftactics, it could be easily ported/altered to et if neccesary.

IT has enuf spawn points for a 10v10 :wink: and they are scattered arnound the map for semi-random spawning, no spawn camping here my friend.

It is a really small map, i wouldnt mind adding a few extras (the map is in wolftactics, so if u have got it boot it up and map wt_rct ).

Here’s my idea: make a small room that is split in in to two equal sections by a big door that opens and closes after a certain amount of time. The door opening and closing should be timed so that when a player spawns the door is closed and after the spawn the player has about 5 seconds to find a cover before the door opens. Both sections have simple objects thrown around (poles, boxes and stuff like that, but only a few) which players can use for cover.

When the door opens both players start fighting and they have a certain amount of time to kill their opponent before the door closes. After the door has closed both players are killed (they can use /kill or then the map can finish them off someway, dunno if this is possible) and everything starts all over.

The purpose of the door-system is to make the player positions unestimable (I hope you understand what I mean). The killing-system is to prevent the dying player to come and kill the surviving player with full health.

Is this possible to do? If so, is anyone willing to make a map like this?

I don’t see why anyone would want to play 1on1 with a game that has FIVE different player classes. How do you get 2 coverts to decide who is the better one? Oh, is that one of my teammates? Oh yeah, I don’t have any.

You dont understand the concept of 1on1 maps, they are to improve 1 on 1 combat skills, aim etc, which EVERYONE comes across.
