40 Seconds for Moltov Cooldown?

From the Merc Role Call video we can see that Stoker’s molotov cooldown is 40 seconds. That seems a little unfair to me. If he had two moltovs it would be fine, but the molotovs IMO don’t have as much killing potential as Fragger’s frags which are only 17 second cooldowns.
Thoughts?

They’re not for killing, they’re for area denial.

Let’s look at this compared to not assaults, but Support Specialists, which he actually is. Arty has a 20 second cooldown, but arguably the worst area denial and general killing ability.

Skyhammer has an astounding 70 second cooldown (1:10), and Kira has 40 seconds I believe. Stoker having 40 seconds? That’s pretty standard. Also consider this: He has access to assault rifles, arguably the better guns overall, and his area denial is actually area denial, that lasts for at least 10 seconds. That’s a very long time, only Kiras laser comes close. It’s also usable indoors, and does a fair bit of damage over time. It pretty much totally shuts down flank routes if used properly.

So no, 40 seconds seems very reasonable.

@CCP115 Yeah, I guess you’re right. Guess I’m just a little too hyped, and a little afraid that he’ll be too unbalanced like Phantom was.

As long as he isn’t OP I’m okay with it. But he’ll kill Arty even more, that’s what makes me sad.

they also do 40 damage a second+impact damage so it’s well worth it imho, especially with their ability to stop people from reaching an objective.

Are you kidding ? They last about 10 seconds. With 40 seconds cooldown. So a stoker can have an area burning 25% fo the time. If you have three Stokers chain spamming EV or planting zone, you only have a 10 second window to plant, once per 40 seconds. You think you will never see three Stokers on a team ?

If anything, I foresee a nerf, like Kira. The only major downside of molotov is probably low damage to EV.

But thats not cause Stokers is too weak but because Fraggers Nade is too strong.

-only 38 seconds for next 2 second area denial

Stoker is more than capable of killing a nader or fletcher directly. He has 120 health and an assault rifle.

Keep him at range, mate. Throw a smoke on the flames AND RUN. Then continue to pop heads as usual.

I wonder if fire damages the EV much. Burn that motherfucker when no one’s around to push it.

Cool down is way too long. 30 seconds is better. Also seems like the augment for shorter cooldown does nothing.

The shorter cooldown augment is called extra supplies, and it only affects support abilities, in other words, it only works for the ammo station.

Yeah I just figured that out. 40 seconds still sucks…especially with the short cooldowns explosive mercs like Nader, Fragger, Proxy, and Fletcher get.

He’s a fire support, not an assault. Keep that in mind. As much as I’d like a cooldown reduction he is honestly already a potent merc for area denial and definitely rivals the others in his group.

Skyhammer’s ability isn’t for area denial it is for clearing an area (offensive rather then defensive like Stoker’s) so comparing the cooldown time on his ability to Stoker’s is not correct. Better comparisons are to Fletcher (7 seconds per sticky), Bushwhacker (30 seconds), Kira (40 seconds), and Proxy (20 seconds per mine). Compared to all of these 40 seconds is quite long with the exception of Kira, however Stoker’s ability is not nearly as powerful or versatile as Kira’s is.

Fletcher isn’t area denial, Bushwacker is an engy as well as Fletcher, and so is Proxy.

Stoker is a fire support merc, so we compare him to fire supports, it only makes sense. And look at Kira’s ability, it’s 40 seconds. I think Stoker’s cooldown really need to be long to balance him out. If a molotov lasts 10 seconds anyway, then the cooldown only really feels like 30 seconds anyway. 30 seconds is not that long.

this afternoon in a game in chapel at the beginning one player said “full stoker” we all took our stoker and we rekt the other team they didnt even touched their ev. it was quite funny for us
