3rd Gen Loadout Ideas

I’m not certain whether this fits in here or General Discussion, but I figure they’re related to Mercs so here goes.

I’ve been mulling over some ideas for weapon changes to mercs that would be fun for the 3rd generation of loadout cards. So in addition to posting my own ideas, feel free to post your own ideas! Some important points I wanted to discuss:

Interesting weapon ideas and combos
Interesting augment ideas and combos
The scope of generation changes: Should secondaries and primaries be mixed up or would this hurt balance too much? Keeping in mind that all prior generations can still be acquired.
To aid balance, should prior generations be craftable without requiring specific purchases?

Here’s my “wishlist” of 3rd gen cards.

Fletcher with Kukri (Nigeria had jungles, after all!)
Return of Phantom’s Beckhill and Stilnotto (perhaps on cards with both chopper AND quick slash to make them more viable)
Thunder and Fragger receiving each other’s machine guns (probably replacing their burst rifles each; unique weapons seem to be a thing of the past, so why not?)

I’d also like to see more drastic loadout changes; it’d be cool to see Skyhammer or Aimee with a shotgun, or Bushwhacker with an assault rifle, but these might be horribly imbalanced even if given suboptimal augments/sidearms as a tradeoff. Thoughts?

i say keep the weapons as it is but vary the augments.

also, phantom Knife is pretty good, i kinda sad when i scrap my gold beckhill phantom when the crafting was launched, turns out it was a huge dissapointment

You don’t think it’d be cool to see mercs get their weapons switched up to keep the game fresh? Even if it was just, say, replacing Fletcher’s Blishlok with a Crotzni?

Also, if Phantoms knife cards were good, why did they get phased out? Given he only has the bat and the katana now.

the beckhill hits more consistently and there are many good players like me that prefer the knife because its faster movement speed for running away.

kiddies back then really wanted the katana so bad so SD granted what they asked

Didn’t the katana already exist? The new addition was the cricket bat, wasn’t it?

I’d probably prefer knives too, honestly. I just feared they wouldn’t be very viable, and Phantom’s already fairly difficult to play, hence why I never blew the 17,500 on a first gen. Wish I could just craft them.

Putting Chopper and Quick Slash on a knife phantom would be interesting, but possibly too strong. I dunno.

the katana already existed, but only in 3 cards if i remember it right

also, putting quick slash or chopper isnt more Overpowered than Quickslash or Chopper in katana (the one hit stab bushwhacker is just too much)

You misunderstand; I was suggesting that 3rd gen cards be made for Phantom that have 1) knives 2) both Chopper and Quick slash, to ensure that those knives are still valuable melee weapons despite having low reach.

But that’d be a ton of melee DPS at high speed so it might be too good.

Give Vas or Aimee an SMG and I’d be over the moon.

Also would be nice to see Thunder and Fragger get their old LMGs back.

And yes, bring back knives for Phantom. Fuck not having the Beckhill. But please don’t force melee shit onto them, make them the best for gun play.

How about some of the knife cards having Chopper and/or Quick Slash? That way everyone gets options.

And yeah, Recons getting close range options (phantom aside) would make them more like scouts. Which would be awesome.

I’d like to see Kira with a Tolen, Proxy with SMG 9, Fragger with Dreiss, Vasilli with Grandeur, and so on.

I’d even like to see something crazy for Aimee, like an M4 so you can get a sniper who can completely change her style and travel with her team instead of playing at the back.

I’d rather see Fragger with an Mk46. And I’m not sure Kira needs any help (I feel she’s a little too powerful, at least in pubs) but if she got some nerfs to her laser I wouldn’t mind her getting weapon changes to differentiate her loadouts from Arty.

What if Sparks got a heavy pistol like a Simeon as a primary? Would that be kinda neat, or not powerful enough?

I’d also like to see a medic with an assault rifle or two but that might require a new merc be made.

Fragger with K121 is actually pretty good if they finally fix the sight problem, its even better than MK46 if the sight is fixed.

also, fragger is different in playstyle than thunder, more versatile in terms of range
(br-16, M4, Long fuse grenade can kill pretty far if done right)

Kira used to be the cool stuff when her explodydendron laser is bugged but she is meh if used on some maps (e.g. underground, bridge last objective) also, her hp makes fighting CQB pretty hard even with katana. very devastating on open area since her laser can be guided but not as powerful as Sky “Overpowered” Hammer marker (best ability, top picks)

also, kira and arty is Designated Marksman, not really made for close quarter combat, thats why their weapon of choice is like that.

It’s not that I think Fragger’s K121 is bad, I just want the Mk46 on him for variety’s sake; I always feel like using an M4 or BR16 on him is a waste of potential because if I wanted one of those I would just use a Fire Support.

And I know why Kira and Arty’s weapons are like that, my point is just that their weapon selection is identical (besides katana), which is lame. We could use a third battle rifle (dreiss/grandeur) and a third burst rifle, giving one of those to each (and some other people).

A third machine gun would be nice, too; that way Fragger and Thunder could get even more machine guns! Maybe an RPK-74. I’d also like to see burst-fire SMG(s) and machine pistol(s) but that’s veering off-topic.

why the laser needs to be nerfed? its far weaker and slower than skyhammer airstrike.

also, giving her an MP would have be like fletcher all over again, broken OP loadout

The answer is in your own post; as I said, if she was given machine pistol sidearms, her laser would need to get nerfed so that she, overall, isn’t overpowered. She’d get a better gun combo and thus would need to be less effective elsewhere. I suppose she could just get HP and/or speed reductions, but this would constitute a change to her playstyle which Kira fans might not like.

Also, I don’t think the laser is less effective than skyhammer’s airstrike, but that’s another topic entirely.

The answer is in your own post; as I said, if she was given machine pistol sidearms, her laser would need to get nerfed so that she, overall, isn’t overpowered.
