300,000 XP to max out character

(DouglasDanger) #1

This was in the new trailer thread, but I thought it was sort of a big enough thing to warrant a separate thread, rather than side-track the thread.

Do you have a citation for this? And do we know if it takes a fixed amount to level up?

Does this refer to hitting level 20? Or does it mean hitting level 20 and then buying the maximum amount of abilities?

The ability screens in the video show the character having that much XP. It’s an assumption based on that. The devs could have programmed any number to be there, but it is a safer bet than any other random number.

Alternatively, it could take only 150,000 XP to get to level 20, and the game stops adding XP at 300,000? We don’t really know.

Anytime in the trailer when it shows abilities it says level 20 and they have 300,000 XP. I don’t know if this is the amount it takes to get to level 20 or if you can gain XP past that but I just assume to max it out.

(JeP) #4

Yeah, I won’t put too much faith in that number, cause every time the new trailer shows the ability screens, we can see rank 5, level 20 and 300000 XP, yes, but at the same time some abilities seem to be unavailable like the player hasn’t the rank needed to choose them…

So my take : this can be random numbers, or even a top XP they set for a moment and we don’t know if this will be changed until the release, etc.

Maybe they just gave the character a quick amount of XP just to unlock everything so they could show it off in the videos

(badman) #6

Yeah, that number is arbitrary for all the reasons already mentioned and is not an indicator of what’s required to get to 20.

(TiN TiN) #7

Ok thanks for clearing that up

(DouglasDanger) #8

thanks for the quick response, badman!

i got a question floating my mind for like 4 weeks reading this articles, about the way you get xp and levels.

so here i go, hope you can answer it:

i have read for repeccing you have to reset all your skills and select the new ones. For this function there is some sort of “coin” (in the vids it looks like a coin) used and at some points its mentioned this thing you get by leveling up. So there is a level cap of 20 so am i right in the assumption that you can get only 20 coins on one character? O.o this would make it pretty silly since your character would be less “equiped” with skills for ever once you choose to respecc your skills! :open_mouth:

so i hope some one can correct me and i hope i am wrong, i would be fine if there is some sort of backpushing by often respeccs but it should be always possible to recollect the resources you spent on respeccing so you cant really ruin your character an have to start a new one …

thanks in advance for your answers

(Herandar) #14

Why the assumption that it is limted to only one coin for each level gained?

(Pariax) #15

y good point … well while you are right that there is no kind of proof on this i think it doesnt really matter how much it is. The basic question is just: are the points you use for unlocking skills and respeccing skills (next question: are the same points used for both functions) limited by the max level you can reach? so no way to get them back or earn them again as soon as you used them once?

(JeP) #16

What ? Seems simple enough, when you respecc, you lose a level and a point, when you gain back the level, you gain back the point, so you have always the same amount of point as the high of your level, no ?

That’s what I understand for now.

This is the correct answer.

(Pariax) #18

ok hope you guys are right, if there is a proof for what you are saying pls post it here…

Can someone clarify what respeccing is? Is the name for what you do in Borderlands when you want to remake your character? Do you sell back the abilities you have purchased? Do you get the money you spent on those abilities back?

How many abilities can you have equipped? Is it one per level? I remember hearing that somewhere. How many universal abilities can you have equipped?

Mmmh… is badman being a dev proof enough ?

I’ve answered most of these question just above, please read before you ask !

Respeccing is : losing one level to disable one ability you’ve chosen, allowing you to get back this level to earn a new ability point.
Whatever happens, you have the same amount of ability points as your level number, and at the moment I didn’t saw ability costing other than one point. We haven’t heard of limits in spending points on universal or class specific abilities.
