[2004 thread] I got research credit for playing ET
So, does anyone have a download for this yet?
I’ll volunteer for any beta testing needed… :-)…
I’ve seen worse bumps before…
Some thread in the Level design part had 1,5 year between the last post and the bump.
we need nate ftw
edit
after some extensive research (ok ok i just googled his name and clicked on the first link
)
i came across this http://www.cs.virginia.edu/~nsh3h/
it seems our nate is all grown up now and works for Mythic entertainment
( http://www.mythicentertainment.com/ )
I emailed him nonetheless (sp? grammar?) to see if we can at least get w/e code he had so far and maybe BANI can put it to work. We can only hope
well, he had two partners in that project, who also list it among their own achievements on their websites. so Nate would likely have to get the OK from them as well.
can someone please pick up the ball and keep it rolling? some mod makers outthere should have no problem implementing this. The community begs you.l
A game I play (PlanetSide by SoE) just recently added the blocks of color in the map to indicate the enemy possitions. The concept is the same as yours. It really does help to get a quick idea of where the fight is. They also have ‘HotSpot’ indicators to show where the current damage exchange is. (IE killing) With both of those tools you can quicly judge the enemy’s strength and position, and get into your kind of fight fast.
I’m not sure if they get the idea from you, or came up with it yourself, but it should inspire you to know that at least that part of it is tried and works great.
Of course they use for the players and not spectators, so some units (commando, stealth, etc) dont show up on it, and you need watch towers or bases to detect enemies in that area.
But keep up the great wotk, it’s people like you that give us the next level of online games.
