2.60b master list issue?

(NovaPrime) #1

For some reason my server keep dropping from the 2.60b master list. It will show up briefly when I restart server sometimes, then vanish. I will verify by doing a search and organize alphabetically and it is not there.

I nuked my server and started a new one, even with a new IP, even in a different country, and it is doing the same thing.

What is funny is, if I do not install 2.60b on the server it shows up on the 2.55 master just fine. So this only happens when I put on 2.60b master list.

Is there an issue with this list lately or is there something in my settings that would trigger it to be removed?

I have the below in my config, and it has always worked no problem:

// MASTER SERVERS TO REPORT TO
set sv_master1 “etmaster.idsoftware.com
set sv_master2 “master0.etmaster.net

At least in the GPL version of the server engine, the sv_master(x) cvars will get automatically cleared if a name can’t be resolved to an IP address. You can check if that is the case with rcon. I don’t know if this behaviour is different in 2.60b or 2.55 versions.

There are bunch of servers in master list when you open Play Online button so you shouldn’t be suprised that your sever isn’t showing from time to time best way to test if your server is there is adding it to favorite list unfortanelly it isn’t working in 2.60b it got fixed with ET:Legacy

Most players maybe look for a game through the ingame browser

Is the MS still sorting out the empty/full servers?

No, the master just replies with what he was asked for. 2.55 clients will ask for full list, 2.6 and 2.6b will ask for reduced list (with empty and full servers excluded). Though not sure if that is the problem here. I tip for what gaoesa said.

No, I checked, that filter is not enabled.

(NovaPrime) #8

Are you talking about the master list name resolution or server name? How do I check this in rcon?

(acQu) #9

The ui filter doesn’t work. You can click that damn thing as much as you want (on 2.6b), the query is hardcoded and doesn’t care.

I’m talking about etmaster.idsoftware.com not resolved to an IP address. The game changes the master server name to an IP address from the cvar on every map start. If, at any time, there is an error resolving it, the cvar will get cleared. After you notice the server is no longer in the list, log on to the server and see if the cvar still has the correct value. In game console command “/rcon <rconpassword> sv_master1”. If the value is correct, the issue is something else.

well what is the purpose of having a server on the list if it will disappear when everyone logs out? then how would that server get new players? maybe I dont really understand what you are saying.

(Radegast) #12

No, you understand him perfectly. It has no purpose because it is a bug in the 2.60b client.

ok well I believe this answers the question to my problem, explains why sometimes it is there and sometimes it is not.

Do you know if I put on 2.55 list and use a server facade, will it do the same thing? Appear when players on and disappear when no players?
