2.60 linux server problems

(Gorrdy) #1

Hey guys, i have been running dedicated servers for our group for a couple years now, and have never had any issues with updates, like to 1.02. Heres the problem, we have a dedicated linux box with full access, i downloaded the 2.60 onto the one server and ran it, making sure all paths were correct, it went through the install all no problems, when i start server up though, it still shows as 2.56 game???
So i figured something didnt work right, looked through files and folders all looked fine, so did the patch again, ran fine, but still only 2.56. Figured , to hell with it and removed the whole game from that server and downloaded the full 2.60 game install, ran it and the install seemed to go well again, start the server and still shows as 2.56?? I have no clue at this point, any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

thats a weird one :eek2:

nothing bizarre like a cfg with “sets version” or something in it?

The ET installation creates a symbolic link. Does you use that link or the regular files to start the server?

When you start the server what is the output it writes to the server console?

Silly question, but did you make sure to kill the existing etded process ? because otherwise, it will keep right on running even if you delete the files out from under it.

Other option is that things somehow ended up in the wrong location. Try
strings etded.x86 | fgrep ‘ET 2.’
It should print
ET 2.60

I got it, :banghead: when thinking about how the server started, using the dedicated command, someone had written me a start script to run through screen ( actually executing the start script via shell ), well even though i had the other server files in its own folder, and thought i had modded the start script, it was still executing the 2.56 dedicated command. :bash:

Being a total noob to screen and linux, i may still need help adjusting the script to stop running 2.56 server and run my other new 2.60.

Thanks guys. :drink:
