16th September Dev Stream Round-Up

News:

  • The next update is “Almost ready, but not just yet.” – Sadly, it looks like the update will likely be early next week, as opposed to tomorrow. There are still some key things to be worked on.
  • They have “talked about” the idea of a merc with a flying drone. Note: This most definitely is NOT confirmed in any way, simply discussion and concept ideas. It does shine a light though on possible future, unannounced mercs.
  • There’s the possibility in the future to see cross-over classes (ie. Engineer-medic, for example).
  • Confirmed: The next map AFTER Dome will be “Dockyard”, due to Exedore’s quote – “Perhaps with the next map, after Dome, which annoyingly somehow, some people have seen.”
  • Aim-punch is very unlikely to be changed again in the future, although as usual, everything is subject to change. It all depends on play feedback and performance.
  • Manual selection for augments and custom loadout cards will NEVER be in the game. It would completely break the current loadout card system. – The closest we may see to this would be a point-based/hierarchy system for selecting augments.
  • Colourblind mode is NOT on the current road-map, however Naxxus has been working on a walkthrough guide on how to change various colour values through the .ini files. This should be published tomorrow.
  • Forward spawns have NOT been added to Dome. It was discussed, but not implemented. They felt the way Dome played was satisfactory and wanted to move onto the next map…
  • They will be revising the “Secondary Objective” mission and “Competitive” mission, and improving upon them. They are aware of the community’s thoughts on the missions.

Possible changes/updates:

  • They are currently investigating and working on improving the stuttering and frame-rate on various maps, during gameplay.
  • Exedore said “When we get some of the other spawning mechanics into the game – no hint there.” – Looks like we could possibly see some new spawn mechanics in the future. No details.
  • Question: Will we see the RNG factor reduced for purchasable goods in the future? – There are other things being thought about, but there is nothing being worked on currently or planned to be implemented.
  • Exedore said “Oh, is he getting buffed?” and laughed upon discussing Phantom, and Shoe responded “I don’t know, maybe.” – This could be possible hinting?
  • Question: Will you ever consider removing Phantom’s shield and making him less visible and quieter? – “I don’t think removing his shield would really solve that issue, but it’s a valid assumption.” – This was said by the lead designer. (Seems they aren’t too keen on removing his shield. RIP Phantom, useless forever.)
  • During development, it was discussed about giving Phantom functions such as EMP grenades or the ability to hack turrets, etc. These options are still open and being discussed.
  • Question: Why does Vassili have such good long AND short range weapons? – “We’re trying to balance as best we can, don’t forget we do have other snipey-snipes coming soon.”
  • The Quick Charge augment on Sparks reduces the amount of time you can hold the charge for – this is confirmed a bug. It will be fixed in the future.
  • It is highly unlikely we will ever be able to shoot through walls or objects. – The maps were not built with the mechanic in mind.
  • It is unlikely we will ever see individual merc rotations – however there are other ways they are thinking about, to combat the rotation merc-stacking.

  • This guy is possibly the most awesome guest ever <3 I could not stop laughing… xD
  • Question: Why does one of Phoenix’s taunts sound like he’s fapping? – “Because that’s exactly what’s happening.” Said Exedore.

A couple of things I noted:

-They discussed the potential to remove more RNG mechanics from gameplay.
-Merc levels might make a comeback.
-All the proof the community needed in regards to believing that raffles in the dev streams are #RIGGED was seen today when DirtyBomb, aka @MissMurder, won the raffle :slight_smile:

Also, @Faraleth, Phantom isn’t worthless because he has a shield, a shield which is by far his best asset. He’s worthless for players who want to play melee only and do as well as somebody using guns. There is a huge difference there :slight_smile:

I really hope they fix the rotation in a way to counter merc stacking. Playing a 6v6 with 4 Rhino’s and 2 Aura’s is getting pretty frustrating.

I don’t see why we should keep the armor on Phantom at all when it only served two functions.

  1. It was suppossed to protect Phantom while he got into range for an attack
  2. It was actually considered a possible body block tool, an invisible guy who’d take damage for his team mate.

But if we give him better visibility so he’s pactically invisible, or entirely invisible, then why would we need it for purpose 1? And if we simply give him Vasilli’s Motion Sensor, just instead it disables deployables in it’s radius. Then we don’t armor for the purpose of helping his team.

All logic points to the armor simply not being needed, it was a questionable idea from the beginning. So just remove it in favor of better cloak, as long as they try to keep it it will only hinder Phantom, not help him.

Thank you once again for another stream round-up, I wouldn’t know what to do without these!! Interesting points talked about this time it seems, cross-over classes are certainly appealing to me as I tend to be a person who likes to do all types of support at once… I know being able to drop health and ammo would be nice, even if it meant no fire support ability or defib… would be a nice trade-off for a Fire Support/Medic hybrid.

As always I am looking forward to the next one! <3 <3

Honestly…I don’t like the idea of hybrid mercs

I feel like they’d be underpowered, and lack a distinct identity like the other mercs. I think there’s just a better way to fill in that gap of needing a bit of ammo or a bit of health at a specific time, without making a merc that pretty much is just there to band aid a common problem.

well technically they saw my idea too… i guess… i shut up now :blush:

(Then again, there are drones in most of the games, rare ones are direct controlled or on players side, unless we are talking about spotting drones which is other idea entirely)

Wowza, today’s stream notes aren’t very positive. No individual rotation :frowning: I really wish they’d spend one or two iterations on smaller QoL changes and bugfixes. The day that I don’t have to write killallsounds will be a glorious day. They should react quicker with thing like secondary/competitive missions.

Ok then. I guess instead I’ll buy that nice t-shirt on the D:OS2 kickstarter. At least I know what I’m buying, no risk of getting a size S pink tank top :tongue:

That just implies that there is (was?) no intention to buff Phantom, and as such now they kinda have to because the Lead Designer was on stream, and heard everyone complaining about him. Or it was a funny joke, either way.

Oh come on, that’s the most enjoyable part about Dirty Bomb. Who needs guns and killing people when you can make Rhino and Fletcher kiss in your head?

Just make a bind for it. F10 or 11 keys are often used for this.
