16 bit color mode always now...how to get 32 bit color mode?

When i first played ET last year when it came out, all was good. 32 bit pixel and 32 bit textures. Then i stopped playing a while ago then came back, reinstall ET and find 16 bit mode on pixels is always forced.

Ive had the same card, a 9600 pro. the only difference being the drivers. last year would have been around catalyst 3.4 and now im using 4.6.

when i startup and pull the console down it says pixel format: color(16 bits), z-buffer(24 bits), stencil(8bits). r_texturemode is 32 bits though.

no matter what i try it just wont goto to 32 bit mode. ive tried setting r_colorbits to 32 and that doesnt work. tried via the normal menu and that doesnt work either. and ive tried plaing with the driver settings. nothing works!!!

so does anyone know about this problem? cause now the game looks really grainy and everything is sorta blurred togethor making long distance shooting a nightmare.

i can explain further later, but i need sleep…

thanks for any replies

In the ATI gfx settings… try setting the (opengl -> custom) texture/mipmaps quality to… highest…
Smuffin like that broke stuff for ATI cards in the past… might still be there :o

yer everything is on highest quality, the funny thing is that quake 3 (i play ra3 a lot) is running 32 bit mode fine. :frowning:
