"You're rank is too high"

I keep experiencing a glitch in where i try and join a group of my friends and it tells me that my rank is too high to join (i am rank 5) despite my friends having set it to “My Rank and Higher”. Something similar also happened to one of my friends but in his case I had made the game, i believe i was rank 3 at the time, and he was rank 2 and it told him his tank was too high to join the game even though i was a higher rank than him.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Oh ya, I’be gotten that exact same glitch a few times now. If you create a game and have them join you then it works just fine. ( if they are ranked 2 and you are ranked 3).

My rank is 18 and after days of getting the router to work right my friends can join me with the game set my rank or higher and they are rank 3-10

You’re confusing rank with level. You are level 18. There are only 5 ranks.

Strange, in mine it says “your”.

say your rank 2 and you friend is rank 3 when it says my rank or higher it means it will look for a game that is your rank or higher when matchmaking (if you make your own game then it sets the game at your rank.) but if you join a match in progress and get put in a rank 2 mach (because that your rank) your friend would be to high a rank for that game. thats why higher rank players cant join

Okay, so I got the same error.

I’m level 17, my brother is level 13, he’s unable to join me and I am unable to join him due to ‘Your rank is too high’ crap even when we both have the ‘My rank or higher’ setting on.

But wait, there’s more!

After trying to join, if I do a search for Friends Games, I get to see that my brother’s password locked game has two people playing! One of them is me! WTf?

I am able to join his game if I use a brand new fresh character. When playing the map Intro cut scene I see my MAIN character, not the new one. Also, if I do this I don’t get any abilities, like for example the most basic required one ‘sprinting reload’ and this pisses me off way more than not being able to use my main character.

Now if I happen to hit level 2 from this game I just played with the new character, the map will cycle as per normal than I get kicked off because, ‘Your rank is too high’.

Worst launch in history.

If you go to create a private match and look under cutsom setting there is an option to restrict your game to only include players that are at or under your current rank. This option is likely enabled when playing campaign. I personally see no reason to restrict this in campaign mode since it is always co-op but as the bots scale to the rank of the host you could potentially exploit this by using a rank 1-2 host and have everyone else use rank 5 characters.

To me it seems like yet another oversight on the part of SD since it becomes very irritating when you can’t even join your friends to help them play through the campaign without starting a new character or hosting one yourself. I also think that mpt being able to get credit for completing the challenges with friends is equally as poor as if they did not want you completing them with others, why provide you with the option to do so?

For me I would rather see the difficulty level provide an experience multipler (why boost on Hard when there is no bonus for doing so?) and have the bots scale accordingly. So on Easy they are limited to Rank 2, Normal is Rank 4, and Hard is Rank 5. Easy has no experience bonus while Normal is +5% and Hard is +10%.

Yeah. I tried to play with my friend and I couldn’t and got the same message! So annoying!

Very funny.

I encounter the same problem, don’t know what to do to avoid it… I usually just switch to my lowest level class and play.

If anyone may not have read my post earlier, a summery:

Brother (level 13) hosts game, turns on ‘My rank or Higher’ or whatever.
I (level 17) can not connect, ‘Your rank is too high’
New character (level 1) Connects, plays, finishes map, levels up!
Map cycles to next map.
New Character (now level 2) kicked from server ;Your rank is too high.’

Yeah, that’s about as short as I can get it.

We’ve tried this multiple times and keep getting the same exact errors.
If he tried to connect to me he just gets a Connecting to Server… message until time out.
Forwarded all ports, tried to DMZ zone, tried to reinstall Brink, tried removing router entirely from the loop.
Nothing changed our problems at all.
