I voted Security Tower because I love the objectives and the battles, yet I believe its main flaw is the amount of travel the Resistance has to do to get to Nechayev when he’s nearing their first spawn. That needs to be changed. Either way, excellent map.
I like container city, because it has lots of objectives and I had some of the most fun games there. But it needs an overhaul, because it’s too easy to spawn-trap security (that only seems to happen on pub-games, maybe because there’s always a lot of confusion on who plays what class etc.)
But generally I like all the maps for different reasons.
I voted for Reactor, I can’t say its my favourite because of the hack objectives as I think there is something wrong with the way hacking is currently implemented in Brink but I love the idea of where you have to defend the two hack points! Reminds me of last stages of oasis and radar(my favourite maps in ET respectively) and that you can really out flank the enemy and it doesnt matter what team your on!
The last stage I havnt played that much which I think is down to how long it takes to hack the first objectives but it looks good!
I guess in order for me its.
I would have thought all this information was being tracked by SD anyway like when players vote for maps in game and generally how many times people have played each map…
Hmm its a bit like asking which chick on the biggest loser is more attractive.
I’ll have to say Shipyard.
Security tower because every game seems to vary on it and I love the SMART options on this one.
Aquarium - A nice map with multiple paths to the objectives plus a ton of jumps for the lights.
Reactor - It looks like a nice map, especially on stage 2, but the first stage is slightly easy to defend and gets mostly full holds, at least on pubs.
Container City - A very nice looking map and does play well minus the first objective. Good paths to flank enemies. The first objective unbalance shows on even slightly unbalanced teams so gives no room for error.
Terminal - The first objective is very tight, easy to spam incoming attackers with little room to run away and cover.
Refuel - Hard to judge, but kinda too open on second stage.
Security Tower - A very long and tiresome map. Everything until the escort objective is smooth. Last objective prefers attackers indoors and defenders outdoors. When playing in the open area too long, eyes start to hurt due to DOF(need to see blurry enemies in the distance).
Shipyard - Multiple flank paths on 1st stage make it good as it prefers attackers slightly. 2nd stage is slightly frustrating as attackers get the height advantage, but is open enough for fast runners and campers to hinder the objective. Plus a hack objective is easy to undo for engineers.
Resort - The bot objective feels too long and last stage favors the defending team(because of hack objective unbalance).
Well, i have to say i like aquarium the most, but ccity is also good if you can get past 1st stage.
sec tower is a great cqb and long range engagement map…:stroggtapir:
assault and hack…operative
ctf element…soldier/medic
escourt…sniper
engineer:D
aquarium offers lots.
-close quarter fights for the doors
-long range shoot outs with flanking options in the second arc, while secs are trying to keep the VIP moving
-finally ever varying scenarios during the finale
security tower hands down.
It has a great balance of open and close spaces to fight and a good variaty of objectives and several alternate routes for each one. It’s also probably the only map where i have no preference which side to play, i enjoy it equally as security or resistence.
Second fav map is aquarium and then resort.
and my least one is probably Reactor
before i write anything i must say that i didnt play all the maps for long enough to give a deep analysis. i played aquarium most, followed by container city, shipyard, security tower. the rest i played only a few times, maybe not even once from beginning to end.
i like aquarium because i played that map the most i think.
its also one of the few maps thats well balanced. i didnt encounter spawn raping in this map. theres also a lot of movement variety. basement is thight, top level more open. like it.
i absolutely dont like container city, if… you have a good chance of beeing spawn raped if you dont rush to the first objective as attacker. when this happens, the map is basicly over. only 2 exits. you dont have to be a mathematician to know that thats just bad. if you dont get spawnraped that map is basicly pretty cool.
same with resort. if the security rushes forward to the resistance spawn, the map is over. there are only 2 routes for the resistance to escape their spawn. lower level and top level. both levels can be controlled from the top floor. so, its almost impossible to get through the defense and to the objective.
for security tower applies the same. if defense pushes offense back they’re screwed. only one exit. again, very bad. rest is fine though. i like the map even more if i wouldnt have framedrops.
terminal: argh. impossible first objective. never passed it. the operative hacking device needs some major buffing. im thinking maybe to make it impossible to remove. i mean: plant device takes time. hacking takes even more time. removing device takes almost no time. hacking starts from 0 again. baaaaad.
shipyard: hm, pretty cool actually. this can very well played like team deathmatch actually. it has only 2 objectives? think so. the hacking takes redicilously long though. again. frustrating for the attacker, but fun in general. i like the close quarters. lots of fun with light.
refuel: only played it once for half a round. seems cool though. room with the plane is pretty big. lots of space for defense. good stuff.
think thats all. no. theres still reactor. reactor looks absolutely beautiful. cant tell in detail what i like about it, but what i dont like is that its too easy for the defenders to defend the hacking spot. this is the perfect example that brink needs some sort of airstrike. a grenade with a timer and a big glow that really goes BOOOOM. you have to avoid it by running away from it, leaving your defense spot. otherwise its a big groupd of defenders, impossible to defeat, at a very compact spot.
Aquarium:
• Art style is great, the whole map feels really immersive and detailed
• Plenty of cool parkour lines for lights but mediums and heavies are still useful
• Change of dynamic from static defence to moving defence after the HE charge goes off is interesting
• A good amount of CQC but also some awesome long range sight lines, sniping from the sec spawn into the bar and taking the lift to snipe from the Ark facts sign is fun as hell
• Speaking of the lift, it introduces a very cool dynamic because it closes off a downward route for attack as well as opening an upward route for defence when repaired
• Good chokepoints with clearly designed flanking routes making them easy to break, this puts a good emphasis on map control
• Very little dead space, I’ve used all areas of the map and seen other people using all areas of the map
• Had some insanely fun firefights on this map, particularly in a few spots: Top balcony (where the vent exits), stairs by the supply command post, all around the upstairs lobby mezzanine
• Escort and HE charge objectives are the most fun as they don’t take anyone out of the fight like hack/build objectives
Close runners up were Reactor (brilliant art style again, two phase design is interesting, and I really love the circular layout of the second phase - I don’t think many people fully understand the layout of the map though and don’t realise you can go underneath the reactor for example) and Refuel (not played it too much but it’s really growing on me, feels very different and less linear to the other maps but in a good way).
With bots I liked Refuel, they act accordingly
With humans I would say Terminal
But the Security Tower map really needs to be optimized somehow, I just cant get stable fps enough to enjoy it anyway. ALL other maps run fine but not this, maybe the weather effects (dust, newspapers) are causing this.
I chose Resort, as I’ve had the most interesting games on that map. There are multiple routes to objectives, and it’s really fun to defend or attack. Plus I like the aesthetics of ripping people apart in a futuristic, Minority Report type mall.
Security Tower has potential, but the first 2 objectives for Resistance are way too easy, and good luck having a pub team (Security) even make it to the door to defend. Then of course, if the door is blown, it’s too easy for Resistance to keep pushing forward to hack the safe.
Of course, it becomes a better map if both sides get there at the same time and both get a chance to try to dig in.
Beyond that, the escort at the end can be near impossible sometimes. It’s just frustrating to have a map where the first 2 objectives are cake (and some would argue the 3rd too) and then the 4th is just a long, long long long grind.
Those are just my experiences, though.
I vote for Security Tower.
It is an awesome map, and as a mainly Heavy body type player, I find it to be very very fun!
Reactor because of flanking/lockdown potential. It just feels the most balanced(with no dehacking) to me. The layout is fun to navigate and it’s also visually appealing. I especially like the various trick jumps that are most useful.
Aquarium would be my second choice for very similar reasons.
Container City, is the first map I played as a Light and it made me swith to one full time. Many places to get up to and shoot down has plenty of good spots to hide in as a light and take people out from.
The resistance spawn is abit bad but im not sure how would be fixed as you need to get onto the first objective to defend it at somepoint
Enjoy the game from both sides on that map tho
Hmm, I like reactor most for the looks. Guess I like well-lit maps, it also looks best on the crappy settings I play with, that could have to do with it.
Best games I had were on Aquarium, although I don’t particularly like the first objective much. Refuel is also really good!
