Yet another Q&A - Questions needed.

As my sig says, I am the Correspondent for Brink at Fragworld.org. It’s a good site for info games and news in the gaming world in general. It is primarily a PC gaming site, but with many games coming out for multiple platforms, much of the info is still useful for console gamers as well, so check it out. http://www.fragworld.org/

I heard from the site Admin today that he emailed badman about setting up an interview, and it looks like we are planning on doing one with someone at SD (not sure who yet or if it will be more than 1 person) so if there are any questions that you would like us to ask, post them at our forums HERE and hopefully they will get answered :slight_smile:

some news about community features and the planned long-term support (dlc, add-on, patches, sdk) would be great?!

when will we get new footage (latest PC build in 1080p would nice!)?

are there plans for a collector’s edition and merchandise?

here goes my questions:

  • of maps?

  • status of balancing / whats the last balancing issue SD was focussed on?
  • whats was the main topic of last week’s directors meeting?
  • beta/demo? any news?
  • any upcoming news releases?
  • is the management team open to compete against the community? would be a nice PR gag too… :cool:
  • will there be a partner for dedicated PC servers? costs?
  • when will you reveal new maps, if any?

I have asked all my questions in the other thread, so I hope this doesn’t undermine the interview from BrinkAddict if I give some examples for questions I would like to see answered here aswell.

If BrinkAddict has put in my questions in his interview, you can leave mine out :stuck_out_tongue:
Otherwise I deffinitly want to see them asked :stroggbanana:

The first set is about the players, characters and their weapons:

How many characters can you create with one account and can you switch between them during a game or do you have to relogin?

Also, is your accountname linked to your player name? Or can everyone steal anyones name and run off with it? (In ETQW the name was locked once you registered it, how is that in BRINK?)

Is there a clantab in BRINK?

Like in etqw you had a buddylist and a clanlist, is there a similar feature in BRINK, and does it maybe have some more functions?

Can you pick up weapons and ammo from fallen teammates/enemies?

Can you pick up a thrown grenade and throw it back?

Are there two ways to throw your grenade? Like in etqw you could have a short “drop” or throw it, or have a sticky grenade (for strogg).

Here is some extra info, that might be fun to know.

I would like to know if you can use your xbox controller on the pc version of the game, and if you do, does it handle the same as on a real xbox. (Like aim assist or anything similar if there is any)
And possibly search for “Xbox controller only” servers?

(Because maybe sometimes I’d like to play brink casually on the couch with the pc in my livingroom connected to the TV, instead of actually playing it at my desktop [and then without the hassle of actually buying a seperate xbox for this game].)

PS: I know you can play it on an xbox controller, but they might strip that functionality out in the final product.

And this one is pretty vital to me :):

Will BRINK have dedicated servers? And then I mean the ones I can set up myself and not rent from a “certified host”.

I wonder how they will implement “dedicated servers” if you can start playing alone and then let other people join your game?

Any information on this? cause how is it a dedicated server when someone joins on YOUR game? Or do you both quit and search for a dedicated server running that specific map?

How does that work? lol

I’m a pc gamer but nonetheless it woul be interesting what you guys at SD think about PS Move?

I’ve seen the SOCOM 4 demos and it looks like it could improve shooter-controls on consoles.

Fileshare, demos (flims spit) and screenshots seem be getting much love on the console scene these days with more and more games having these facilities built in by default, can we expect something similar with Brink on any or all platforms?

Can we have some more information on the way the social hangup around the game is organised? Will it be something like L4D?

Has there been improvements made to hit detections since ET:QW?

Just jumping randomly on the spot during a fire fight could result in shots not been registered never mind performing smart animations and so.

The hitboxes have been become more detailed but yeah the devs haven’t said anything else on hit detection.

I’d like to know if we on console can expect to see user-created content (from the CPs) like maps, outfits, weapons, game modes released as DLC. This was done on games like Unreal Tournament, and the content was generally a lot of fun.

I’d also like to know more about how the manual version of SMART movement is handled.

Brink has a wide variety in terms of character customization and weapon customization. Besides these main two things what other elements of gameplay has Spash Damage made that keeps gamers coming back to Brink and wanting more?

Gaining XP for character customisation
They also included some maps which you can play in I heard.

How much more you need?

The site admin sent an email to badman, and he responded. he told me they would aim for sometime in December.

What type of spawn system are they going to use? How long is the wait after you die?

The respawn timer constantly countdowns from 15-20 seconds. Whatever the clock is at when you die, is how long you need to wait, so it could be 20 seconds, 1 second or anything in between.

It is also team wide, so EVERYONE on your team who is waiting to spawn, has to wait the same exact time.
