Yet another execution post

(ZenVirZan) #1

I don’t mind if execution is removed from quick join (quick join should have been removed long, long ago, but I digress). I don’t care if most of the servers are closed, either. There’s no need for more than one server per region. The missions are gone now too - the mode is completely optional as it stands right now.

I’m part of that dedicated 5% that would just like to be able to play it, even if it isn’t advertised and promoted in regular players’ faces.
Just dedicate one of the empty objective or stopwatch servers (they’re never all full, its a case of which ones have players and which ones don’t) to Execution we’re all good. We have a community based around this game mode, please don’t take it away from us. You’re completely within your rights to, of course, I’d never dispute that. But surely there’s other ways to address this issue.

“But Zen, no one plays Execution! Even a single server is a waste of resources!”
That one server will get attention, I’m sure of it. And it’ll also keep the Execution mains around. We do play other gamemodes every now and then, it’s just not what we come to Dirty Bomb for.

“But Zen, then they have to maintain another whole gamemode!”
I highly doubt the miniscule amount of maintenance Execution requires in its current state is worth pushing fans away like this. There’s a big difference between keeping it running, and feeling the need to add new content. We have enough content, just leave it be. Don’t worry about balance patches or the like, because ultimately, we know the game isn’t designed around it, and we don’t expect balancing for it either.

I think the most important change to implement is this:
Please lock Execution servers until at least level 10, to make sure that people understand that it is not the primary mode of the game. I’ve seen far too many level 1s join, call it a shit CS clone, and leave.

We don’t need any updates, we don’t need new content. Gallery, Market and Overground are all different enough and play differently enough to keep us happy. I mean, we’ve had the same maps for this long and we’ve still managed to keep our regional execution server full most days.
I find the tension of Execution, plus other things like timing, meta, and all of that stuff that is often overlooked in casual to be so much fun, and I’d probably just stop playing Dirty Bomb without it. Stopwatch is good in its own right, don’t get me wrong, but I personally (along with a significant number of players in the Australian region alone) prefer the execution gameplay, even if it’s not balanced (although i’ve got to admit, pulling the balancing card is pretty ironic considering the state of the game at the moment).

Should SD ever release another patch before officially unsupporting it, the only change I’d like to see implemented is the delay between rounds to be shorter. Waiting 10 seconds or whatever it is over 300 hours or so adds up. 5 or 6 should be fine.

@ZenVirZan Couldn’t have put it any better!!

This should have been the obvious solution after hearing their reasons for removing it haha, although it might be a little too late now as seems new players aren’t coming in that fast to make use of this atm.
So maybe in the future this would be good to implement after game comes out of beta and gets a bunch of players and if execution ever comes back

100% agree here. It’s just extreme to remove it completely. It wasn’t hurting anyone, I don’t understand the need to get rid of it when there were players who mained it like yourself and others who enjoyed the change of pace (me). Please @stayfreshshoe can you take a look into this? Maybe leave some form of it alive for those of us who enjoy it?

I have a feeling that they took a look at running it at minimum servers. Yes as i completely agree with op i think devs want to avoid future grips. Its better to have one time wtf u take away then months of need more servers need more content bugs bugs bugs. Besides who knows maybe there introduce execution v2 with more chicken flavor.

Let’s face it, since Splash Damage took control of the publishing back from Nexon, they’ve decided that they don’t want to pay for the execution servers. That’s why this is happening. That’s the only reason this is happening. It has nothing to do with anything else.

And that’s wrong. I’m against any developer just axing 1/3rd of their game content, let alone full-fledged game content.

  1. “Splash Damage doesn’t want to focus on Execution.”
---- They don’t focus on Execution. They never have “focused” on it. I’ve played since Sept. 3rd last year and other than the updated textures there have been no updates for EXE.

  2. “Splash Damage wants to solely focus on what makes Dirty Bomb a good game.”
---- Execution is a great mode. Lots of players I know solely play this game mode. I can’t wall jump or drop an orbital laser on the bomb-planter in Counter Strike… I want to play this game mode with these 20 different mercs/ classes. Since when did everyone vote for Dirty Bomb to be the spiritual successor to Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory or Quake? Where was that community poll? I didn’t vote.

  3. “I only play Execution for the daily rewards anyways and I’m glad I don’t have to now”
---- No, you didn’t only play it for that. Splash Damage removed the possibility for the game to give players hourly missions for Execution Mode quite a while ago in an attempt to kill this game mode. That shows plenty of players were still enjoying Execution Mode even without getting daily missions for it and more importantly were dedicated to it despite this.

  4. “Only 5% of players’ time was spent in Execution Mode.”
---- Many games have game modes that 5% of less of the players spend their time in. One such example is the Battlefield series. Some games and game modes of Battlefield have 2% or less players spending time in them yet they’ve never outright axed their content other than to not host older games (as a whole) any longer.

  5. “I’m glad SD is listening and removing Execution Mode!”
---- Listening to whom? So many people complain about lots of things on Dirty Bomb. The players overwhelmingly dislike Thunder, so they nerf, and nerf, and nerf him relentlessly. They’re also complaining a lot about Rhino. Why not just delete those mercs? They complained about Dome so it was “removed to work on it” which doesn’t make sense as they could work on it just fine offline (like all devs always do) without having to remove it. What if they decide that 1st Edition Loadout Cards just don’t “fit well” with 2nd and 3rd Edition and decide to remove 1st Edition cards altogether? These are big problems, in my eyes.

  6. “Hosting Execution servers wastes Splash Damage’s money”
---- While consequentially true, as servers DO cost money, Splash Damage has made more money on this game in recent months than they’ve EVER made on this game. So much so that they’ve quadrupled their dev team size (or more by now). The studio is growing, yet they are massively cutting content. This doesn’t alarm players - even whom only play Obj. or SW. mode? Everyone SHOULD be alarmed.

All-in-all, even if you HATE Execution Mode, and even if you NEVER play it, why would you, as a Dirty Bomb player and fan, ever want the developers to cut 1/3rd of the content of their game? What if they cut 1/3rd of the mercs? What if they cut 1/3rd of the other Obj./ SW. maps? If they cut 1/3rd of literally ANYTHING else in the game there would be an uproar. As a Dirty Bomb player that spends most of his time in Execution mode, I would like to speak for the dedicated fans of this game mode by saying, “we feel like this is just picking on us”.

I was so excited for the Phantom Obsidian cards. I thought they looked cool and was excited to get my hands on the bundle. I saw the intro to the video Shoe made for the Aug. 22nd death of Execution and in the beginning he says, “let’s talk about Execution Mode”, and I literally clapped my hands once, smiled like a madman, and said, “yesss, finally”, and waited in anticipation for what I assumed was going to be an announcement to show Splash Damage actually cared about this game mode. The next words out of his mouth were to say that they would remove this game mode ENTIRELY on Aug. 22nd. Words can’t describe how mad I was and still am at this decision. I won’t purchase the Phantom Obsidian bundle now. How could I? For someone that plays MOSTLY Execution Mode, removing this mode is essentially the same as Shoe coming into my home and deleting Dirty Bomb from my computer himself. I don’t support this, I won’t support this, and while I may continue to play the game, you will receive no money from me. And I’m 100% positive the echoes of Execution Mode players will be heard as well as they also stop spending money or refuse to spend money like I am.

This is a horrible decision and I am entirely opposed to the removal of Execution Mode.

Very thoughtful and well worded. Kudos sir. I sincerely hope the other assholes who are bashing you all fighting for your favorite game mode will see how rude it is at some point. We are still ONE community afterall.

Thank you. We feel hopeless which is why you see a lot of posts in the forum regarding this issue. I’m level 63 right now. I’ve likely earned 45 or more of those levels in Execution Mode itself. I know for a FACT I wouldn’t have continued to play this game if it weren’t for Execution Mode. This is a game mode I could die once in a round and potentially watch more skilled players than I and see their tactics and strategies, only to have a short wait before I could respawn and implement them. The knowledge gained from 1 death of Execution Mode and watching my team has molded me into the player I am today.

I’ve even heard rumors of some players claiming that they are looking into taking a copy of this game and illegally hosting it on their own servers just for EXE mode to still live. Clearly, there are people that care enough to play this game mode.

Why remove Execution? Ridiculous.

(Eox) #10

Thread cleaned from unconstructive or rule breaking comments.

I remind this to everyone : play nice. Getting upset won’t make things better. No matter if you are for execution or against it, if you get angry, it won’t make you more credible. It would actually have the reverse effect.

Better post a constructive feedback than an angry rant.
