(Avoc) #2

I didnt know that sandstone could be so shiny

(Gir) #3

yeah i overdid the Specular Maps

(Mateos) #4

Ambient lighting at 40? o.o

(ailmanki) #5

maybe he flamed all the sand, and it became glass

(zbzero) #6

Great but tell me that fps in the et-xreal version are terrible have a way to get it better because the third ss with only have 5fps.

(Gir) #7

there is no ambient, it all real time Lights, and the Shiny Sandstone is caused by Specular Maps.

Its slow as I managed per Pixal Lighting

Nice work. I’ve had contact with Marko from MLB, so if all goes right, we can add your work to the official repositories. About the FPS, I don’t know what version your running, but the latest public release has it’s issues.

Also, make sure you converted the map from Id Tech 3 format too Id Tech 4 format, because we have trouble with lightmaps.

If you want further help, come to our IRC.

Yeah I converted using map2map but it unaligned all the Textures

The map Only works in OpenWolf until Xreal-ET Fixes the Memory leak

From my mail:

Hi Kevin,

Here’s the sentence you were waiting for for a while

I hereby release the MLB maps, originally for Wolfenstein Enemy Territory, under CC-BY-SA

[ul]
[li]All custom textures / models / shaders have been made by MLB team. These are only a very small percentage of the resources we use in the maps.
[/li]> [li] Most of the resources (textures / shaders / sounds / models) are standard ET ones… meaning you either need an agreement from splashdamage to reuse them or we will be to replace them accordinly (which might take a while)
[/li]> [/ul]
Regards,

/Marko

We got the green light for the project. I would like to ask you to hook up with us on IRC so we can talk about how we can synchronise the textures and add them to the repository. We can now add the maps to the game, so they will be available as stock map.

I don’t advice using map2map. We got our own new program for it, available in the internal 0.3 build. It works better with lighting and prevents the alignment.

since you are retexturing the custom assets of the game, I would like to ask you if you would give them to our project, so they are there for everyone to use and share.

Sock’s Egyptian texture set never looked so good.

yeah i overdid the Specular Maps

You’re in good company, Doom 3, Quake 4, Quake Wars, RTCW 2, etc. all suffer from un-realistic, overly shiny surfaces.

Sometimes I think that texture artists should go into some old factories & buildings and see just how dull things are in the real world are.

Not every surface reflects light like shown in recent games and even when wet they don’t reflect that much.

Just for kicks I grabbed a few textures & bumpmaps from RTCW2 and put them in ET - they look pretty realistic even without the specular stage so even with a older game engine a level can still look great given the right material - the Quake 3 community is doing amazing looking levels to this day.

i don’t think high end graphics are that important for Multiplayer FPS Games, The Most Popular Online PC Shooter is Team Fortress II and those Graphics are Cartoon like, yet they work rather well.

It would be Nice if Wolf ET Successor would use Capabilities similar to the Source Engine

(Mateos) #13

Seems the most popular one is League Of Legends according to several tracking websites; First FPS is CoD 4.

Nowadays it seems that the eye-candy factor sells a lot, like when ET was out is was WWII games everywhere; now it’s realistic games (CoD a year, BF3, …). And when players/puslishers will be tired with this, they’ll find another kind of game to overmake…

Source isn’t free, and start to look old, it does not supports recent features… All test websites/mags say this. You’ve already get some replies about Source, you should care them.

I’ve always thought that Day of Defeat:Source would be perfect for a W:ET total-conversion.
