Xreal project

(varsovie) #1

Today i found xreal-project
http://xreal-project.net/?page_id=15

XreaL will be a non-commercial multiplayer only first person shooter based on a heavily modified Quake 3 Arena engine (id Tech 3). The aim is to push the rendering technology until it can be compared with current commercial titles and then to produce a playable Total Conversion.

They did great job with engine to support many SFX features i dream about acquire Xreal team minds into developing W:ET. Focused for rendering engine because W:ET has already good gameplay  We only need tune old graphic to meets current hardware features.

Does anybody has skill to inspire Xreal team for W:ET mod ?

ET engine is closed source.

(varsovie) #3

Rudi - but this :

http://wiki.splashdamage.com/index.php/Wolfenstein:_Enemy_Territory_SDK Isn’t enough to tweak render engine , SFX ?
Also NoQuarter source is available http://www.shitstorm.org/noquarter/wiki/index.php?title=No_Quarter_Source

TC:E team in the past improved ET engine so much so Xreal with great experience maybe can do something for ET community

(Rudi) #4

Correct, it isn’t enough to tweak the rendering engine…

(ischbinz) #5

i m thinking sinca a long time about a open source engine for et -
but there are maaany things to code -
i think its possible to make it - but you need a bigger crew - many coders + the community must support it with maps…
maybe anytime

(system) #6

We allready got it started with the Evolution engine. netcode works, startscreen comes up etc. but the programmer has stopped programming it :frowning: to bad cause he said there would be some nice effects like bloom (?) and no more ugly pixels…well not so many more  If there are serious programmers…who knows …

(But its 100% doable but also a lot of small-part programming afai understood…)

(Rudi) #7

Trust me, what’s planned for ET will be worth a lot more than a rewritten engine.

(system) #8

ischbinz, what engine did you have in mind ?
Maybe we could make some contact if your serious about it
(I could ask the source if you are 100% interested… )

(Berzerkr) #9

ischbinz thinks about the Irrlicht Engine:
http://irrlicht.sourceforge.net

(system) #10

Hi Berzerker,

i allready made a little contact to him/her. I know Irrlicht only by name.
Gotta take a deeper peek later on.

Greets,
Dutchman.

(IndyJones) #11

that engine doesn’t look really good, unlike xreal…

(stealth6) #12

irrlicht is only a graphics engine, so useless without the ET engine source?

(Paul) #13

When rudi says this, believe him! I think we should wait

  • ET Source is going to be released if zenimax agreed, I heard…

(IndyJones) #14

pardon my ignorance… but who is rudi and zenimax in et world?

(system) #15

Hi Indy,

i only know Zenimax (i guess…). Afaik they bought ID Software

(Zer0Cool) #16

Trust me, what’s planned for ET will be worth a lot more than a rewritten engine.

Are there any more information?

(Rudi) #17

There will be once SplashDamage has reviewed the proposal.

(system) #18

Can you at least tell us a bit more about wich proposal and from whom or something ?
At least share the info (if you got them) and don’t only throw some bones…or do we have to write the SD staff where they released some info we missed ?

(Rudi) #19

Why the impatience?? We’re still working on final details so contacting SD won’t really make a difference, nothing is released yet.

(system) #20

I ain’t impatient  Just wondering :stuck_out_tongue:
