Yes and no. Most of the players on there are regulars (mostly Clanned) who come there looking for a tough, competitive game (it runs in Stopwatch mode as well, which seems to be rare in ET, but which would obviously be used in competition). Also, I hear that ETPro will be the mod of choice for TWL and Clanbase, so hopefully we’ll see more ETPro public servers soon.
However, I’ve had some good reactions from people who’ve stumbled onto the server without knowing what it’s all about. Once people realise they’re not going to be disadvantaged by having to play 2 or 3 maps before their XP is on par with others who’ve been there longer, once they realise they’re not going to get the shit kicked out of them for 2 or 3 maps by LVL4 Meds with 50% more health and 35% more accurate SMG’s (and before anyone says it, I’ve been that LVL4 Med and IMO having god-like powers is just as boring as playing against others with god-like powers), once they realise the only distinguishing factor between themselves and everyone else is skill, they soon start to appreciate the benefits of no XP.
It’s obviously not to everyone’s liking, and I think people who play for the XP system (not necessarily for XP per-se however), then it would be a bit of a culture shock to play without it. Each to their own I guess, but I personally find no XP to be a liberating experience and allows me to focus on the game, not it’s built-in, and fundamentally flawed, points system.
PS: Yesterday, got TK’ed by an Engy on my team for helping him arm his dynamite. Even though I tried to explain that arming the dynamite was the main priority, apparently, so he told me using colourful language, I was an XP-whore trying to steal his points. :bash:
