Alright so I don’t know how many of you know this but it could potentially become a big problem. As we all know Brink has done a very good job on making the XP system accurately represent good play, but I recently found a way to get much more XP than normal without really helping my team. As an Operative you can easily sit back and spot enemies with Homing Beacon, getting 50 XP a spot. This can be very counterproductive to your team because it doesn’t physically do anything, it just helps other people do things physically. Now of course you can argue that spotting is good for the team, but don’t you think it would be better if said Operative would just kill the enemy? Or Hack an objective? Because by just spotting, an Operative can get around 14,000 XP a match.
XP Whoring as an Operative
Thats not even the most xp an op can get. If an op were to sit back and let his team kill every1 he can get 125 xp for comms hack and another 125 for disguising. Also while not helping any1 out.
Players are already doing this. Thank goodness it is only a few of them. I used this method in solo campaign to quick level a few of my characters. You can actually XP whore as any character type, if you do an action for the sole purpose of gaining XP. The downside is you won’t be invited to play with others and find yourself only getting into games with bots after a while.
i love it when people just homing beacon all enemies. it is VERY helpful to know where all enemies are. i usually do this when there are not turrets to hack, mines to spot, or people to commhack. my team usually gains a lot of ground when i do this on a lot of enemies. but it doesnt happen alot because theres allways anothe mine. . .
Yes, but no. I realised this a while back but it can also get you killed really quick :>
I use the homing beacon all of the time, whilst in disguise but when I do I also complete ofjectives like escorting the bot etc. at the same time.
I wondered how the hell I did so well as an Operative one of the first times I played it… I play with XP indicator turned off, so I had no idea.
It’s all incredibly helpful to the team really… Homing Beacon and Comms hacks are good heads-ups, and disguising can confuse enemies. I think it’s balanced out because they all take so long to activate, plenty of time to get splattered if you’re in the thick of battle.
Don’t forget to set the body/corpse you’re about to comms hack or disguise as respectively to your objective so you get extra points (tap the objective-wheel button while looking at something to make it your objective).
