XP-unlockable achievements - Humor required xD

When I played ET:QW I fought hard to get these medals (getting 500 knife kills, vehicle stunts, etc). They were like goals to achieve for my own pride yet they would not grant me anything else, which was a shame truth be told. And when you tell me about the africa’s campain, I remember only the “Close, but no cigar !”

From what I see on the forum we are beginning to talk about the content of the F2P system and how to make DB addictive, and maybe the first step is to define these rewards you unlock according to your gameplay.

So here is my idea : we prepare here a list of these rewards, using the traditional SD humor, and define what must be done to earn them.

Here are some examples :

  • “One hit wonder” : achieve 500 headshots
  • “Choke on that sucker” : achieve 300 vengeance kills
  • “Close, but no cigar” : die 1000x by leaving less that 5% hp to your killer
  • “That would be me …” : achieve 500 back stabs
  • “Blind Fire” : achieve 200 kills while blinded by flashbang grenades
  • “Rear entry” : achieve 500 kills by shooting your enemy in the ass
  • “Gang Bang” : achieve 500 grenade killing sprees
  • “Minefield” : achieve 1000 kills with mines
  • “Boobie trap” : achieve 1000 kills with mines as a female engineer
  • “Broken wings” : achieve 200 kills on flying enemies

and so on … another cool idea would be to make steps for each type of rewards, like 500 headshots, then 2000 headshots, and finally 5000 headshots.

These can be suggestions, ofc SD will have the final word ^^ So, to your pens guys ! Humor is not an option here :smiley:

Good idea to write them up in concrete form. I have not many ideas, but the most obvious to me is healing and ammo support. Maybe something like this xD

  • “Touch me, baby” - 500 medpacks given per session
  • “Pump me up” - 500 ammopacks per session

xD I am not very creative with this, but maybe some more ideas to come :slight_smile:

P.S. maybe we should also discuss rewards you get from these unlocks. I can think of these in DB: avatars (aka profile picks), skins, animations, medals (to show off). Of course some of these would partly conflict with the monetizing scheme SD chooses to go for.

I had a good laugh with this reward xD This is starting to make me think that these rewards could be cumulative and thus enforce the teamplay spirit in the game !

Maybe it is too soon to define the rewards given, but if we get a good list of ideas already with names and what has to be done to unlock them here, I’m sure it will be helpful for the guys at SD !

I want some sort of reward/recognition for bleeding the enemy. It is my style of play: lurking, keeping the distance, firing on an enemy or a group of enemies, then, quickly, moving back, e.g. around a corner. It’s not that I miss the actual kill. Nah, I gladly pass that to a team mate. (And the game rewards “assist kill” in its current state, which is also cool.) But I would like to see some sort of “Bleeding the enemy”-sort-of-reward/recognition. (Ideally, bleeding with your gun/pistol, not explosives or EV machine gun or stationary machine guns.) I have no good name for it. “Tapping Award”?

As the game isn’t limited by anything other than SD’s design I’d say they should go for 100’s of achievements. Better to dilute the pool than have people focusing on a handful of the same grinders. Might be controversial but perhaps limiting the amount you can contribute to an achievement per day or hour etc would be a nice way to stop people farming them at the expense of the game being played.

It depends on the type of achievements but for the standard ones 100 is too less.

I assume 100x takes 30-60 mins and a normal pub round lasts minimum 20 minutes, and achievements count universal (not per session).

I like Sockdogs initial idea. About 3-5 achievements per hour, otherwise too much spam -> no satisfaction when getting it -> ppl are fed pretty fast

Rather less achievements per session/hour but in constant intervals as every 6, 12 minutes. minute 6 achieve X, minute 12 achieve Y, minute 18 achieve Z, and minute 22-24 achieve ALPHA.

Players should have a goal in short (per round, 1/3h), middle (per average playtime, 2 h?) and long term (20h+)
We should distinguish achievements between those three.

100’s of achievements, maybe not, but a lot, and for this we need mooooare ideas ! Here is another one :

  • “Double penetration” : achieve 4k assists :cool:
  • “4th of July” : achieve 2k kills with airstrikes

Maximum achievements 15K+ (the higher the maximum step, the better)

  • “Teaty Bomb”: 200 teabags on enemies
  • “You just like … heads”: 20 headshots with throwing knife
  • “I see what you did there”: 5 kills in 20 seconds
  • “My heart just goes boom”: spotting X amount of enemies with heartbeat sensor

I guess this would depend on the type of action required to unlock the reward. 15k seems nice but for knife kills, gonna be hard as hell.

This is sooooo British style xD

And I have another suggestion :

  • “Gunslinger” : achieve 15k killing sprees
  • “Go fetch !” : deliver 2k carriables

About the limiting thing: the problem here is too much spam, maybe on the screen during the game, i agree. Depends on how the achievement is presented. A possible solution would be to display unlocks on the endscreen. But if you get 10 or 20 of these per session then of course it is just delayed spam :slight_smile:

Limiting them to 5 per hour would not be my thing to go for. Maybe connecting them to xp level aka you can unlock stuff only when you are level X. This way maybe you could evenly spread out more frequent and easier to get achievements onot xp levels, so that likelyhood of spam is reduced, so as you increase in xp level it is more likely you have got achievement X already, so that the next likely achievement Y is less likely to overlap during that session (complicated sentence, sorry xD). Especially on the more likely achievements such a spread would be favourable imo. Or design them in the hope that likelyhood is low of getting too much subsequential spam. Maybe better solutions are possible, but i would prefer coupling them to xp over limit over time. Seems more logical to me.

EDIT i guess we could be test this as alpha members if achievement spam is annoying or how frequent they are over time. Would be an easy parameter to feed into echo :slight_smile:

There should be two kinds of unlockables :

  • permanent : works like the medals in ET:QW, so notifications of completion are rare since they require a lot of time to achieve.

  • session-dependant : boosts XP upon completion, can be cumulated within the same game-session, is briefly showed on the top-middle part of the hud for notice.

I hope if we do have these kind of permanent awards it won’t end up detracting from teamplay (been discussed before so won’t bring it up again here), but here are some :wink:

Serial typist - 100 PDA objectives
Chock-a-blocker - 100 barriers built
Always the bridesmaid - 1k assist kills
Lazarus - 1k revives
Automagical - 1k turret kills

hehe yeah the first obj on camden was a lemming rush hence the tag change but only 5 chars ;( I got something like 40 assists on whitechapel I think it was so I know the feeling :slight_smile:

Maybe rewritten like this ?

  • “Need a lift ?” : achieve 500 reparations of the EV

Maybe this one could be cool too :

  • “What scope ?” : achieve 200 kills from 10 meters without using the scope (sniper only)
