I think the XP system was an interesting idea, but ultimately I’m not completely convinced it performs as they intended.
Let’s say you get the most xp for doing the mission at the top of the wheel, because you do. Now, let’s say everybody does this. It’s typically going to be stand by the thing, get the thing, do something to the thing or stop them from getting to the thing.
Now, this is all well and good. If you do this, you’ll score a lot of kills, get a constant flow of xp for being by the thing and I believe you get bonus xp for killing people around the thing.
There are typically two command centers, one of which provides a team wide health bonus and the other that provides a team wide supply bonus. How this will go is one guy will go get them, eventually, if left untouched and unguarded, both will be taken by the enemy team. If the enemy team holds both of them they have a reasonable advantage when it comes to pushing their agenda on the thing.
The XP rewarded for running around capturing those command centers, firewalling them and upgrading them whilst trying to at least make an appearance here and there at the main objective isn’t that great for the amount of running around.
So, what I’m getting at is this. If you ignore those and guard the thing for the most XP you end up doing so at a disadvantage. So unless somebody specific takes a hit on xp to be the run around guy you eat the disadvantage. It’s tough to say whether or not you can count on somebody else doing it. I’ve played a lot of rounds where those things just sit in enemy hands unless somebody happens by.
I don’t even know if an adjustment to the system would work, or make it worse. I almost think that the whole system is just one of those ideas that sounds good before you put it on paper, let alone in practice. There would need to be something additional added to make capturing them and keeping them worth more in XP to the person doing it. Perhaps some team effort should be required to mess with them, maybe if an operative locks it down it takes an operative to unlock it?
I’m just interested in some discussion, not necessarily insinuating a change MUST be made.
I understand XP isn’t really a big deal, I’m looking at it more from the “score” or recognition standpoint.
