My friend and I have been playing the campaign on Hard to get the Tough as Nails achievement. On Day 6 of the Security campaign, the AI are useless. This mission is next to impossible without a full team of Players. Every time we go and do that mission, we lose. That mission is harder than Halo 3’s Cortana on Mythic difficulty. Scratch that, this single mission is harder than the entire Legendary campaign of Halo: CE. For the old school gamers, you know that that is a pain in the ass. I have tried almost 30 times, and can not beat that mission. This one mission is the deal breaker of whether or not I will sell this game. I just can not stand it.
Xbox 360 AI
Do it on your own, the more bodies you throw at it the harder it is, I finished it yesterday doing the last three missions in an hour or so.
My friends and I had been trying to do the crane one, attacking, for two nights beforehand… :o
Enemy AI ramps up the more humans you have in game. Likewise, friendly AI takes a serious hit… instead of helping with primary objectives, they capture command posts ad nauseam.
Do yourself a favour, as suggested, and just grind through it solo. Worse comes to worse, just slay every enemy by the objective and then suicide repair for the first part. It might take you a couple respawns, but you will complete it eventually.
For the second part, just hack from cover until the enemies start coming, then frag them (I recommend the under-barrel grenade launcher on the Gerrund)… then resume hacking. You’ll probably have to fend off one wave single-handedly, but whatever works, right? As a side note on the hacking, another tactic is just to sit in cover while hacking and keeping an eye on the hack box. The only units that can stop it are engineers, so be sure to target them once they approach the hack box. After you incapacitate them, kill them outright (to prevent revives) and then resume hacking and get back behind cover. If you do this correctly, the enemy AI won’t hunt you down but will stand around like idiots b/c the enemy engineers are lying dead on the ground.
PS. - I’ve played the Cortana level, and I can attest to the levels of rage that mission conjures. Dealing with the rubber-band cross-map auto-headshot bots in Brink is not far behind.
PPS. - I don’t know if you are aware of this or not, but the AI is dramatically easier when playing as lower level characters. If a particular mission is giving you trouble, you could probably beat it with a Level 0 new character easier than with your Level X current character.

We tried that with just two of us, didn’t help really. We both ended up doing it alone.
It’s a shame as it was fun co op but very unbalanced at times, defending missions stupidly easy and some attacking missions, like this one, controller throwing hard. For a co op game to force you go complete it on your own is a bit stupid.
As stupid as this sounds, I think co-op vs. AI becomes ‘viable’ again once you hit Rank 4 i.e. Lvl 15 or higher. At this point, you can have a viciously decked out soldier with upgraded grenades. These will rip through the enemy AI, as their favourite thing to do is clump up around the objectives.
Additionally, using a Silencer will make fighting the AI dramatically easier, because they won’t react as quickly as normal to dish out their patented cross-map auto-headshots.
Likewise, anything you can do to drop the AI in one-shot will make a big difference in avoiding their vicious return-fire. As such, opening with headshots or using the Barnett upgraded by an engineer are solid choices. The Barnett in particular is capable of one-shotting Light and Medium bodytypes with a single body shot cross-map.
A two person co-op team could probably easily take on wave after wave of AI given the potency of Rank 4 soldiers.
By contrast, enemy AI have an uncanny ability to destroy turrets and shoot disguised operatives, in my experience.
I honestly found it easier doing it with my friends, objectives get done faster, and as long as you can kill the bots, your alright… I don’t have to much of a problem taking on a bot, it’s just when they shoot me in the head twice and I’m 99% dead… that’s when I get screwed.
But yesterday, doing the challenges, the bots ARE BS. I will now officially join the community that is against the bot AI. Not only are the players teammates mindless, but it’s not really even a challenge, and the bots don’t feel like “actual other, noob players” or whatever. They don’t act like noobs, they act like retarded COD players, like, serious down syndrome players who think their playing COD… and it just annoys me because I’ve even seen noob players do far better than the bots…
I was playing a solo freeplay stopwatch match earlier today and to my amazement the bots were actually going straight towards the primary objective.
I was playing on the Security Tower map as an engineer throughout the whole match and my team seemed to just steamroll through most of the objectives (except when you have to deliver the pass code, I did that myself). It was done in just over 11 mins which is much quicker than most times I’ve played alone with bots.
But it seems to be every time I go back to rank 4 the friendly a.i get better and the enemy a.i get worse but when I go back to rank 5 it’s the other way around.
Yeah, that’s how the game AI should be, and when their like that; it feels like your actually playing with REAL people, which is what they were shooting for…
It’s supposed to be like that, the higher your rank, the dumber your bot AI and the better/smarter/sexier/cooler/accurate/faster/more powerful the enemy AI…
I have been trying to complete this for three hours!!! Hard on Shipyard, its simply impossible. Tried Solo, couldn’t even come close. Got one buddy to help was still impossible. GOT 4 PEEPS, royally owned…
Im curious Devs, if this was intended then pls can someone show me how a player can complete this map on hard. Me and my buddies can’t do it.
There are ALWAYS at least 2 bots STANDING doing nothing on my team. Also whenever i disguise myself to go behind enemy lines, they pick me off like i have a sign on my head that says “to kills bad guyz shoot here”. Seriously SD this is F***ing annoying.
Im all for challenge but this is god damn near ridiculous. The bots snipe with SMG’s, and god help us all if one shows up with a shotgun. Oh and my favorite is the cross map nade throw thats FREAKIN heat seeking! Damn bot throws a Molotov INSIDE the door i was hiding in…I wasn’t moving or shooting so i couldn’t have shown up on radar. bot just decided
“hey ima ruinz his dayz”
I am not happy, this map is way too tough.
I cant play on my level 14 character anymore. Any enemy that is AI one hits me.
Easiest way to do the tough as nails achievement is to do it on online versus instead of hard. Eventually you’ll come across a competent team - hopefully against the AI only - and you’ll do it.
This was the hardest mission in the game for me - and by miles the least fun. Hacking as it is, is flawed, but when you’re the only one doing it from miles away from the objective each time you spawn its just not fun!
