Would you sacrifice Phantom's refractive armor...

Over a completely new ability, primary weapon or “slot 4 weapon”?

Correct me if I’ wrong, but didn’t SD claim they did not want stealth gameplay mechanics in DB?
If that’s true, then why’s there a pseudo stealth ability like that? But anyway, this rumor made me wanna create a “what if” thread like that. In order to see, whether Phantom doesn’t really need invisibility, but something completely different.

But how would they retcon that in DB lore? Well, one would make an official comic where Phantom goes through power loss and gains new ability/weapons/etc. in return. But that’s just me.

no, just reverse that cd nerf

(buffBook) #3

Give him a satchel pack instead of invis.

par that…

DELETE him.

(WATAMAN) #4

Phantom is stealth? lol. The only people how can’t see him are new players. With his emp ability he lost all his “stealth” ness.

(Dysfnal) #5

I’d just like to say, only a bad phantom sprints

(JJMAJR) #6

If they are cloaked of course. Or if they need to run away and need the cloak’s armor for a bit.

But speaking of running away, why doesn’t Phantom have Nader’s physical stats?

(TheStrangerous) #7

If the cloak makes you 100% invisible = OP
If the cloak makes you slightly visible = Underpowered

Problem is, average human reaction time is “0.25 seconds to a visual stimulus” according to Google search.

Sadly no middle ground there. Yes anyone could suggest making him completely invisible while standing still. But the pacing of the game is too fast for staying in one place for too long.

Some people like to play with their brains. A character that is slow-paced and allows the player to use their head could actually be extremely fun.

Then why fat scouting as Rhino is more viable than using minigun? Minigun’s too situational, turning him into walking turret.

Some people like playing with a style that requires them to think more than the average player.

Is minigun Rhino a character that requires more thinking than Fragger? Not really.

I think that Rhino should get a headshot protection ability to make him more capable at what he’s much better at doing: taking advantage of his hitpoint pool to make a mess of everything else.

Phantom is pretty viable if anyone uses SMGs (not that melee only misconception), but so do other mercs have SMGs, and… there’s nothing that separates him from other mercs.

I don’t see refractive armor going anywhere, if SD doesn’t want stealth gameplay. So is he an assault or stealth? Nope. He’s a mismatch of both…

Phantom might as well be a marksman, just like any other recons. Instead of clearly visible refractive armor, give him a spotting ability and a unique marksman weapon (something other than sniper rifles).

Phantom + Sniper Rifles
I’d rather avoid the situation that Fire Supports are in right now, but thanks.

Ironically he used to have PDP back in the Alpha or something. http://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/420780/ss_5c635fdf263d8d0dc0c2ca4924468622bcbf83ee.1920x1080.jpg?t=1448488459

Actually, I was thinking of something close to mid range. There’s already enough of long range snipers.

To be precise about that spotting ability I mentioned. Just turn him into a walking sonar.
He could spot both enemies and deployables near his range (the same range as his current EMP). So those pesky Proxy mines won’t be a problem. In W:ET, covert ops could spot land mine, and I’d love this ability to come back in DB. Now that is something I would give up Refractive Armor for.

Cough good for people who like to get in close, bad for people who want to play with a little bit of brainpower on their side… Cough

Just remove the EMP field and give him an EMP nade, or a Spotting field instead. Key difference would be the Spotting field would give a DETECTED icon to enemies, but still would show them on your team’s map and hud.

I’d give up armor just to have cloak that actually works for keeping me invisible, but that’s just me.
