Would you people like Friendly fire rooms in casual mode. ?

(LMuerteMan) #1

I don’t get to play a lot in ranked or competitive matches mainly due to the system taking to long.
But when I did I really like the way the game changes for lots of Mercs manly the ones with explosive abilitys.
I would love to have FF on normal servers whereas It is in objective or stopwatch. What you guys think. ?

no no no no no…

Imagine an 8vs8 with Proxys, Naders and Fletchers, etc. Now add in a bunch of level 7s who have just come out of their max 6 servers… what do you think now?

Friendly Fire by default: GOD NO
Given the sheer number of Skyhammers who throw their airstrike just after spawn, no. I don’t want to experience the receiving end of a teamkill-Explodydendron, or even be in a game where the other team got wiped because someone fatfingered their marker.

Friendly Fire on some servers: Sure…
Maybe on the Min 10s and 20s. But Casual Match Making will soon be a thing, and we have no idea what the server setup will be, just that there will be a server browser.

Friendly Fire in CMM: As an option
I personally would never queue for FF on. I play a lot with a friend who likes throwing stickies and nades over my head to steal my kills. We wouldn’t be friends for long if we played with FF on. (I also like dropping Party Favors near him because he’s always getting into trouble.)

The number of people who martydom as a friendly medic is running towards them is ridiculous. Add friendly fire and the medic dies :cold_sweat:

Friendly Fire on pubs would be the best thing that could happen to DB pubs right now. People will adapt and the average skill level will go up, but the first few weeks after the change will be a nightmare, but after that it will be alot better than before.

I remember a GIF from way back in the day where a team was pushing in on Bridge 3 to grab the second sample. Their Nader was down, Sawbonez came up to zap her up while someone grabbed the objective and the other 2 went to cover other entrances.
I think you can imagine what happened…

I’m going to try and find it.
EDIT: Didn’t find it.

(yesser) #7

maybe in min10 and 20 cause they are 6vs6 but in 8vs8 NO

(Jostabeere) #8

No.

(doxjq) #9

Absolutely no.

(LMuerteMan) #10

Well I think it would be wise to keep servers with FF off. But also give the option to have some with FF on I like the idea to have the over level 10 or 20.

I also think people will Adappt you can be more carefull if you know FF is on the desire to win its bigger that that of a kill.

I remember that Enemy territory was almost always FF on. And there were rockets mines grenade launchers flamethrower and mortars, airstrikes (way bigger than sky hammers )

(HunterAssassin5) #11

yeah, give the d*cks more troll fuel, why not.

(SirSwag) #12

New players almost exclusively play skyhammer. I don’t want to give them the tools to easily wipe out their entire team.

(frostyvampire) #13

No, it will be hell.

But I’d like to see some other stuff like:
If you shoot an enemy Proxy mine, you will be able to kill enemies with it and he kills will go towards you (the enemy Proxy is not affected, she won’t get a teamkill and won’t get/lose any xp unless you manage to kill yourself or your teammate with that mine)

(opicr0n) #14

Friendly Fire, please yes! For all the nay sayers, remember that Wolf:ET had FF on by default and was very succesful.

Sure there were a few incidents every now and then. Those people were kicked automatically after x number of team kills. Mostly new and raging players who left the game indefinately for not adapting.

You might not like FF but it forces people to be more accurate and aware of their surroundings. Which is a good thing, learning curve increases with the bonus of rinsing out the true noobs who cant handle the playstyle. They can go to overwatch then ;).

(Herr_Hanz) #15

allow me to shoot through teammates with weapons other than snipers instead.

or make it a certain mode. CoD has normal team deathmatch, and hardcore team deathmatch. where shooting teammates will give you damage instead of them.

(l2c) #16

Friendly Fire is why I don’t play ranked, so I say NO TY!

(Szakalot) #17

Give it to those that want it, damn it. How are people supposed to get into comp play, when they can’t even learn to play with FF on.

I understand that there are players out there that enjoy mindless spam and prefer FF-off; its okay, really.

For any SD-games veteran friendlyfire on is so obvious, everyone is scratching their heads why its not in yet.

QuakeWars had fifty times more spam than Dirtybomb ever did, and somehow you never saw the ‘highest teamkill player’ in a 30minute map go above 3-4. DirtyBomb is mindless spam precisely because players never had to consider their teammates. It would take top 2 weeks for trigger-happy people to adapt, and the game would benefit so much from it, its insane

(Orivar) #18

It wont be fun getting killed by a friendly in a non ranked match right?

(Szakalot) #19

it will happen once in a while, so? The more people play, the less friendly fire kills there will be.

But consider the benefits:

  • promotes tactical positioning, rather than the bumrushing that we have now. Since team collision is on, you can’t all just swarm one choke and overwhelm the defense. Attack will have to spread out and pull defence apart, rather than the kill&grind chaos we have now, even in high comp play. Conversely, Defense can’t use their numbers as easily - no longer can the entire enemy team sit on a single aura station and play Protoss Deathball simulator.
  • allows a 1v2 player to outmaneuver his two opponents so that one of them is blocking line of fire of the other, granting a temporary 1v1 situation (tldr: raises dueling skill ceiling)
  • allows for the awesomeness of TKrevives
  • allows poor medics to finally get the attention of their oblivious ammo providers
  • prevents griefing of delivery objectives
  • adds complexity to the battlefield-suddenly everyonecan use anyone’s proxy mine/sticky as a makeshift explosive, ammo stations and healing stations have to be placed with consideration, so as to not block teammates (i guess i would be okay if friendlies could walk through teammate’s deploaybles - at least on pubs)
  • removes the silly walking through friendlies molotov, lazor, airstrike, artillery, walking on fragger-nades (oo-ooohh)
  • REDUCES SPAM - finally spam-wielders have to be careful about where they are lobbing their explosives, so as not to hurt teammates, rather than just spam the chokes mindlessly and get random kills
  • Slows the game down just a tad, replacing the mindless TDM grind with planning, positioning and PROPER crossfires.
  • Encourages people to try ranked, which atm. is too difficult to get into for players that have never had a chance to play with FF-on. I played with FF-on in SD games for over a decade, and I still need at least 30min to get used to it again, because of the silly FF-off in Dirty Bomb pubs.

And at what price? that a friendlie will sometimes hit you for a bit of damage by accident? We already have the anti-griefer system (people that kill friendlies on purpose can be ‘punished’ by the victim. Too many ‘punishments’ and you get autokicked).

Competitive scene has used friendly fire for as long as it was possible, and somehow nobody cried that they are getting shot by teammates, even though occasional teamkill would be expected in every single game.

(bgyoshi) #20

Having played with FF in many FPS’, I’ve yet to notice any significant changes to the way players play. The spam will not slow down in the slightest, people will still randomly lob grenades all over the place. The only thing that will change is what players are wary of. If a friendly nader starts spamming nades, players will just wait for them all to explode instead. They’ll stay clear of fragger nades and airstrikes, and will just generally fight from farther away. Well, in pubs anyway.

But the spam won’t stop.

Also those clutch end round team wiping TKs.

And all the accidental bans due to TKs caused by teammates running in front of friendly line of fire.

Woooooooooooooo
