Would it be possible to...

Would it be possible to make Brink into singleplayer game with huge open world to explore where you do missions, lets take examples like Assassin’s Creed and Mass Effect games and even little inFamous.

Brink was biggest hit on PC, according to the developers, so atleast it would be possible to run it on bigger scale than what consoles could.

The setting is also there. The Ark. There are two factions and the missions could revolve around those two factions, so you would basically have two playtroughs right there. Also the missions in game could be simple errand missions like “Take this paper bag over there and lit it on fire and ring the doorbell” or something like what we have now on the game but just more story driven. This is where Assassin’s Creed comes into play as example, it has open world to exlore and you pick your missions from people around the city.

The part where MassEffects come is is the party. You could get 2, or more, with you and give them simple commands just like in ME, also this would is where your character class comes in play, if you pick heavy trooper you have to have medic along to boost you and hacker to hack and so on.

Now the combat in game would not only happen during missions, there would be random encounters, opposing factions doing their own missions, sort of speaking, and you could stop them or just ignore them but this would affect the games world somehow. Lets say Resistance is attacking Securitys base, if it would be lost in the attack then you would lose spawn point in that area of city BUT you could get it back after period of time and/or if you just fight the forces back.

Options to mod your character could remain the same and you would be rewarded for doing missions and getting better hold of the city or causing more havox in it, depending the side. Also there would be weapon and armor vendors around the city, yes just like in AC games or any other rpg game you see around there.

I know that there are still loop holes on this idea but this is just a idea that I had few minutes ago and just wanted to get it out my mind in here

A good idea as long as you don’t suggest 3rd person view. Brink looks to do this over time with the site map, and expansion through DLC, but you want it all in one game with a story-driven campaign setting. You are not alone in this wish. I want both, what we have now, and this. I want my cake and eat it too.

If you want to re-write the code for almost the entire game, then yeah, I guess it would be “possible.”

Maybe you should have started your post with “Would it be possible to make Brink 2 into singleplayer game…”

Well what comes to 3rd person view I think it should be option to choose if you want to. Lets take Fallout3 as example on this one, you can put it on 3rd person and I would actually like the option because that way you see your character more. In fallout3 I always run around inf 3rd person but shooting happens in fps.

Ah my mistake… lets discuss about that then

In single player campaign on PC at one point in time you could play in third person. However, when it comes to MP I don’t think it can be a choice - everyone should either be locked into 1st or 3rd person.

Using your companions idea though I think that it would be nice to be able to give some form of commands to bots/other players. Like being able to have your character request rez, buff, ammo, etc. would be nice (this feature was in ETQW).

Personally I want Brink first and foremost to be an FPS. However, it sounds like you would prefer it to be an RPG. I’m fine with RPG elements being integrated into the game, but the overall focus IMO should be MP gameplay and FPS features. I think the single player campaign could be vastly improved by reworking the way that the story is told.

The whole giant persistant world thing trying to be shoe-horned into every game is getting kind of old to me. It’s similar in my mind to those folks out there that say every IP should be made into an MMO. I love MNC and I’d love to roam around an open world MNC land with the assassin, but I have to admit this probably wouldn’t work for that title ever. This works for a lot of games as a great feature (Just Cause 2, MMOs, GTA, RDR, etc.), but it doesn’t mean it should show up in every game like a lot of people seem to be trying to do as of late.

This also gets into the issue of basically designing two entirely separate and completely different games. Is MP going to happen in that big persistant world? are they going to break it down into levels? etc. etc. If you decide to make MP gameplay happen in that big persistant world then you are basically changing the entire game from Brink 1 to Brink 2.

Basically I agree it would be a cool idea, but I don’t think it would work for Brink.

*Also, “Brink was NOT the biggest hit on PC, according to the developers…” - fixed that for you. If they develop Brink 2 it would be best to keep consoles in mind since they had better sales and more players there (no offense to anyone on PC, but I think this is pretty obvious at this point).

To OP,

Sounds a lot like a what Prey 2 is trying to accomplish, if I’ve correctly interpreted/understood what I’ve read about the game.

this. in the 30 second trailer i’ve seen, it does look like a blade runner vision of what Brink (parkour) + ME2 (sci-fi action RPG, albeit more dystopian (hence blade runner)) might look like. needless to say, i’ve bought into this hype.
