the one worry that stands out for me, and perhaps a member of SD could answer my question, is that it seems like this game focuses heavily on teamwork, wich is nice to see, and that the game encourages you to work as a team by rewarding you with xp, so my worry is (if this game is going to be as popular as i think it is the issue will be worse) that once people have reached the level cap they wont need to earn xp and so wont work as a team. so is there a reason to collect xp with a character that has level capped? please dont make a presteige system or babies will die
although i suppose it would be alright if it served more of a perpose than in cod where you just get a pretty badge so that everyone can admire it while teabagging your corpse and insulting your mum.
worries
Our scoreboards are prioritized by XP, so there’s the incentive to top that even at max rank. But primarily, once players realize the power of team play, they tend to stick with it.
Very valid concern. I said something similar a very long time ago. XP should retain it’s value throughout the game, there need to be ‘xp-sinks’ so there’s always something to spent it on.
Yet another hacked patch for a flawed system (XP), heaven forbid people should just play for the fun of playing. That’s my worry, that XP, perks, customisation etc becomes the currency of play rather than enjoyment of playing with and against others.
What’s wrong with having a currency and being rewarded for doing the right things? That you can’t **** around anymore? Gosh that would be terrible.
At first I couldn’t understand what you (everyone) were talking about, but then only recently after playing QW and then going to BC2 for ex I found it really painful. I can deal with a slow walk speed, as long as the sprint speed is nice and quick like QW, and there’s no lag when firing at a sprint (I don’t think there is from memory).
Also, Strafing must be available on the sprint! I can’t remember if I’ve seen examples of that yet.
Am I right in thinking that the game run speeds were slowed so it’s easier to control on a gamepad?
May I say hallelujah?
I never said it needed to be as fast as Q3/Qlive anyway, just that I’m really not fan of the last wolf / BC2 speed for exemple, what’s the point of the smart if all your movements are turtl’ish style? maybe for the realism sake… but cmon these guyz have a harsh live on the ark anyway, so they should be on speedy pills all day long
Make it faster!
Peace
This too.
It’s just kind of sad that people need to be “bribed” and rewarded to be a teamplayer.

And also teamplay is kinda weird stuff… got the 3 best killerz of the game in your team, and you win 90% of the time… easier to do the obj when its clear and you got revived each second…
especially on 8V8, will be epic IMO
Because they can detract from the purpose of the game. Play is no longer about 20 minutes of fun, “the experience”, and enriching that. It’s about accumulating a score of some description which the user then equates to success or failure. The game becomes secondary, a means to an end.
And who defines “right”? Games are released with balance issues, bugs, exploits etc and yet you think the XP system isn’t just as prone to damaging the game when the “right” move isn’t actually the best move. “****ing around” as you put it is, IMO, the reason I play with humans and not some rule laden predefined AI.
To a lot of people, gathering XP and getting unlocks is a fun experience for them. Personally I’m not bothered about it either way, but I can at least see why some people would enjoy it.
its because as humans, collecting things and lvling up tickles all the right parts of the brain, this coupled with the sexy looking gameplay and shooting people in the face is the perfect recipe for a primal, testosterone fueled smoothy of fun. do you really think people would play wow if you couldnt level up? no, just like people wouldnt play it if there was no gameplay, and it was just a huge spreadsheet. gathering xp is an awsome part of gameplay not a seperate thing
The people who wrote the game rules and defined the victory conditions. I don’t imagine for a second that the xp system will be perfect or exploit free but it’s better than having people running around playing team death match (or taking a scenic tour of some out-of-the-way mountain range in a vehicle) in an objective game or gametype. Why shouldn’t you give people some positive reinforcement for helping their team.
****ing around is a reason to play sandbox games, not a reason to play team oriented objective based multiplayer games.
Aye this is one of my fears, If I want to play Call of Duty, guess what I will go out to the store and buy it.
Cocaine also tickles parts of the brain but it doesn’t mean it should come sprinkled on cornflakes. I know people enjoy the whole XP thing, my concern, in part (and as echo’d by yourself), is that as soon as the XP earning wears thin people give up on the game. Now tell me where a game’s longevity is defined more by it’s scoreboard than the actual enjoyment of playing the game?

Yes developer sets the rules for XP, it was sort of a rhetorical question :). However this means that the developer needs to pre-empt every action and weight it accordingly in the XP system. So instead of players doing what works best for the team, they have to do what works best by SDs definition or be penalised for it. And if players only play the game for XP and levelling up why would they want to be penalised?
I also didn’t mean that “****ing around” meant not playing the game. I intended more that players adopted original tactics and strategies that benefit the team but were not part of the original XP rules set by SD but of course are part of the game rules (ie beat the other team).
It tickles ego’s & strokes some other part I think
Wow has nothing to do with it. Since when do we need XP in an FPS
gathering xp is an awsome (??) part of gameplay not a seperate thing :)
Really. Because I’m thinking: “XP? Who the frack cares”
Some people like chocolate icecream but dont like strawberry icecream, some like strawberry icecream but dont like chocolate icecream, some like both, I am a bit partial to mint choc chip myself though.
lol i think you got a little caught up in your ice cream analagy there, and i have been sprinkeling my cornflakes with cocain for all of my 15 years and there have been no negative effects as of yet, atleast thats what the voices in my head say
Nothing wrong with a nice sprinkle of cocaine, even for mint-choc-chip or rum-raisin. Problem is when you start eating your cornflakes or ice-cream just for the cocaine, sort of defeats the point of ice-cream and cornflakes.
