Working on a map but NEED HELP!

(cicero) #1

Hello!

I’,m at the moment working on a new map for Enemy territory. It’s based around a small island with a local fishing village, just like those found around the western coast of Sweden and Norway.

There is one big problem though, I don’t know that much about mapping but I’m getting there. So far I’ve managed to create 10-11 houses of 14, all acessible(!), with 1-4 floors inside and 2 bunkers.

But now is where I find a lot of trubble I can’t get around… Placing trees and prefabs for example. There is a tree planter button in gtkradiant but I can’t get how to use it… Yes, I’ve searched teh net for tutorials but so far scorde no points… And prefabs, I’ve tried to import them from the file meny->import ´but it doesn’t work…

If anyone can lend me a helping hand I’d be most pleased.
Also, if anyone would like to take a look at the map just to comment it (in it’s current stage), please mail me!

Thx

for planting trees see this link

for importing prefabs if they end with the extension.pfb, just rename to .map, and then import them

for prefabs: edit -> load prefab

well sometimes prefabs are saved as pfb files and u can only select .map files with load prefabs

Thx very much! But by the time I got your mails, I manage to figure out how to plant trees. So now I face another problem… How do I construct the see around my Island? I got so much that I’ll need to construct a BIG box all around my map (as it shall be an island in the middle) then selcting a nice sea-texture but I don’t belive textures are smart, that is change the rules for the enviroment (so that a player might drown if under water to long) How is this done, how give this “intelligence” to the waterbox? Also, all things going down in the water, how do I exclude them from the water so there won’t be to things in the same space?

Thx!

Also, would be nice if someone would comment my map. Email me and I’ll send you the map (in it’s current state) in return.

Thx again!
