Wolfenstein-The-New-Order-Revealed

(FFSturm) #41

It seems to be based on The Man in the High Castle science fiction alternate history novel by Philip K. Dick.
But at the same time based on Fatherland novel by Robert Harris.

All this stuff is giving me lots of good vibes.

When do I draw the line? I draw the line when they go overboard with being futuristic and “cool”. I know Rtcw has mixes of futuristic and occult goodies, but it was a nice balance with the normal WW2 scene. I want mp40’s, thompsons, lugers, and other standard ww2 weapons. It’s fine if these weapons are mixed in with futuristic weapons, but a Wolfenstein game with nothing but futuristic weapons just isn’t right.

My point is: It’s not a Wolfenstein game without the WW2 atmosphere.

(EnderWiggin.DA.) #43

If they did not know what to do with it, they wouldn’t have think about making a new one in the series (And paying for making it). I think

Duke Nukem Forever, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Simcity5, and Wolfenstein 2009.

Not MachineGames, Bethesda. Machinegames got a contract so of course they are enthusiastic. Hell, even Endrant seemed enthusiastic about Wolf 2009 MP. If Bethesda is so clear on what they want to do with the Wolf IP, why not do something with the MP which was one of the strong points of RTCW? The publisher is testing the waters without committing too much money.
All I’ve seen thus far is a teaser and a few screenshots. Maybe they will have an amazing story with interesting, challenging gun play. We’ll see.

I’m keen to

Would you say you are Commander Keen?

Hey, 3D Realms knew what to do, prob was changes of Engine.

And well, there’s this:

(MoonOnAStick) #45

After watching that interview with the developers, Machinegames’ vision of an alternate-history actually looks rather compelling (at least from the concept art.)

Sounds like they’ve gone back to Wolf 3D and decided to focus more on the science/technology side. Where as RTCW went with the occult Nazis theme for its WhereEaglesDare + RaidersOfTheLostArk mashup (enjoyable as it was

No multiplayer is disappointing but hardly the end of the world, especially if it was going to be half-arsed anyway.

I agree that they are doing a better job at handling this new game than the Wolf 2009 devs did. But they went too far. There’s too much futurism and not enough WW2 aspects to make this game deserve the title “Wolfenstein” in it. They would get better sales if they would have left the name “Wolfenstein” out, and went with something else, because much of their target audience are people who have played Rtcw/Wolf 3d.
Besides, all Wolfenstein games have taken place during WW2 and done well, so why not this game? What makes a 100% futuristic Wolf game special? Could someone enlighten me?

(Mateos) #47

And so Wolfenstein should stay stuck in this era?

(ronboy) #48

Mateos, the Wolfenstein series has always been set in the WW2 era since the first Wolf game came out. Changing it may bring new players in, but many old players, which most likely make up a big percentage, will be lost at the same time. Basically, they should have stuck with the same formula Gray Matter used to make Rtcw, and you would see a lot of happy Wolfenstein fans.

(Mateos) #49

And people complaining about no creativity like CoD? Have the same game but with newer graphics? It would be like that, a remake to make money. Nothing more. IMHO

Edit: Avoid generalizing, not sure all Wolfenstein (RtCW) fans would like a copy/pasta.

(TFate) #50

Also, who knows what WWII tech the Nazis will be keeping in this alternate history version…

(ronboy) #51

COD doesn’t even deserve to keep getting sequels. One thing that went wrong with it was when they decided to move into modern times and the future. I don’t know about you and everyone else here, but I hate fps games that aren’t WW2 (which is the best era, in my opinion).

About this game, indeed there needs to be more info, and eventually, the release of the game before all of us here can have a final say on it. But don’t say I didn’t warn you, because I’ve seen the description, videos, and pictures. I have a bad feeling about this game, and there’s a high chance that I will never buy it, no matter how cheap the price is.

(Mateos) #52

You seem to already have a final say on it  You see the Wolfenstein series as a WWII series, and if it gets out of it, you will hate it. So there’s no point in discussing with your statement, the game will not match your taste.

People @ Steam forums hate the upcoming Dirt because they removed the cockpit view for instance; Butthurt all around the forums, with “it shouldn’t be named Dirt”, “there’s no point in supporting a steering wheel if there’s no cockpit view”, and other arguments. So not only Wolfenstein gets this point of view, and so far only CoD has been “successful” in not changing anything (And is killing the FPS btw). My 2 cents

There were an other upcoming game with the same thing (Something removed or changed), and same result on forums… Can’t remember which one.

Fallout 3 (Not Van Buren) has been a great butthurt as well for classic fans, and the New Vegas was for both classic and 3 players from what I’ve read, so it’s not new ^^

(iwound) #53

killing nazis is always fun.

(RasteRayzeR) #54

You read it in his voice, admit it ! xD

COD games are still being made. They want to satisfy the console crowd and the kids, and I think this game may be made for kids too. Before Wolfenstein 2009 came out, I was tempted to buy it. But I saw how it strayed too far from Rtcw and Wolf 3D with the veil and other trash.

I have the game on my pc now. Why? Because I decided to give it a try because it still had some WW2 in it. And I was hoping a SDK would be released, but nothing happened. The game died. It’s possible the same thing will happen with this game. Also, have you seen how ridiculous this game is getting? One screenshot had laser beams shooting in the background. Do lasers, huge robots that look just like robots from another game, and nothing but futuristic weapons sound like a true Wolfenstein game to you?

It doesn’t to me.

(Dragonji) #56

FYI, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was the best game in all CoD series so far…

Ekhm,
I still don’t understand where some of you draw the line between what is acceptable in a Wolfenstein game and what isn’t.

Seems legit.
So yes, as far as we fight against Nazis it is a Wolfenstein game to me.

I think COD 1, 2, and UO were the best, but to each his own. You said that as long as it has nazis, it’s Wolfenstein. So if the setting was in space or in the Middle East, would you still call it a Wolfenstein game as long as it had nazis? I know I wouldn’t.

(Mateos) #58

As for lasers in background, I will answer with tesla gun.

CoD 4 is still used as prefab in CoD MW 3 for instance (Buildings, scripts, triggers, events), so it shows it was the last time they made efforts to bring something new (and good).

Robots was the next step after Uber Soldats, when you can’t get rid of the human body limitations, get rid of it, use mechanical things: no need to feed, can work 24/7, more strange, no pain feelings. The perfect “weapon” for Axis. Of course not in WWII, need time before developing that stuff  So the 60’s, the technology is developed and widely used… Seems legit.

The console ports of RtCW had missions in Africa, wasn’t bad at all  And if Axis have won, they may be present everywhere on Earth, with a more large terrain to search for paranormal stuff.

When you don’t stay stuck in same place in the time and in the space, you can do something new. Resting on the same segment on these 2 points, here you have CoD. I would not like to have Wolf like CoD.

(Nail) #59

The new wolf has aspects on the moon as well, with sights on mars. All sounds interesting to me, mind you the hundred people who still live RTCW will hate anything with wolf names no matter what, oh well.

I like the 60’s theme, so much happened, but what would we watch, “Lindenstrasse” ?

You have some good points. I’ll be honest; I never liked the MW series. COD got bad starting with COD 3. I don’t know about you, but I’m an “old school” pc gamer. I don’t own any consoles, nor do I intend to ever buy one. Waste of $ if you ask me.

It’s not necessarily the robots themselves that I don’t like. The design just seems too similar to other fps games with robots. They could have been more original with the artwork.

I’m aware of the console port “Tides of War”. This is something that should have also been made for pc Rtcw.

I don’t want Wolf to become a COD either, but they kind of already did this with Wolf 2009 by giving it COD features. Also, I’d say this game will be released sometime this year or early next year. All of us will have our final opinions on it then.

PolygonValley (author of Operation Redmoon for Rtcw sp) was working on a mission pack for Rtcw that eventually took place in space. He never did finish it though, I wonder what happened.

Now, now, there’s no need to go judging Rtcw fans by saying all of them hate any new Wolfenstein game. Some of them may actually enjoy Wolfenstein The New Order, others may not. It depends on each person and what his/her interests are with a Wolfenstein game.
