Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory Redirect Server

Situation:
My clan(!BA!) has several servers which are not up 24/7. They are hosted on certain members’ computers. They are never all up, and usually only 1 server is up at a time, creating much confusion.

Question:
Would it be possible to make a server mod that when someone connects, it checks a server-side list of servers(a text file) for a server that is up, and asks the player if he wants to redirect to that server(The first server in the list that is up).

I was thinking of hosting a server like this so I can reduce some confusion since I can have it up 24/7, but don’t have the kind of internet connection that can handle more than 4 players at once(My other clan members do). I’m pretty sure lots of other clans have this problem too.

i am almost sure that you can watch servers in ASE

If you are clever with shell scripting might be able to do this. Make the one server have a full message, and 0 public slots. Then use shell script and a command line server query tool to scan the servers and set sv_fullmessage (which does server redirecting in 2.60) accordingly. Doing it on windows would be rather harder…

Convincing your clan to use ASE would probably be a lot simpler. So would renting a full time dedicated server :moo:

Well, the redirect server would be hosted on Linux.

I use The All-Seeing Eye and i am happy with that tahts very good EYE :smiley:
