woldspawn help

(XaNaX) #1

hi im making my own house in radiant just for practice. all i did before this was made the “box room” in the tutorial. i got that to eork by pressing “N” and setting the min and max values but it was only because the told me what to set them at. i think them ones are too small now because when i compile and run it i can spec but not play it freezes before limbo menu. Im sure this has been asked before but i searched worldspawn and cant find any help. how do i know what coords to put. do i have to be in top down view or is it al the same on the grid? also im looking for furniture prefabs if anyone knows where to get some or has any.

thanks

Get Radiant 1.5/NetRadiant and use ShaderPlug.

(XaNaX) #3

ive been usin 1.4 8( can i use my same map in 1.5 and what is shaderplug used for? im having a hard time with shaders too. i think my paths are set up wrong or something i dont really understand how to use them. the only prefabs i can use are the .map kind. the ones that come with shaders like trees i cant figure out yet.

(Destroy666) #4

Yes, you can switch to other Radiant without problems with map loading.
I made a little mistake - it’s called SunPlug and it’s used for automatically setting coordinates.
About shaders - check if you set correct path in games/et.game
It should look like that:

enginepath ="J:\Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory/"

what version is recomended for ET mapping? i heard 1.4 was the best so ive been using that. Is sunplug a plugin for radiant or is it a stand alone tool?

(UJERebel) #6

Plug-in
I suggest NetRadiant.

(XaNaX) #7

the computer im editing on upstairs has no net. lol thats the reason why i didnt get that one i assumed you needed the net for something

(XaNaX) #8

also is it true that the min and max coords have to make a perfect square? im still having trouble or maybe its something else im doing wrong but i can spec in the map but it crashes and freezes when i hit “L” to go to limbo menu

(Destroy666) #9

No, they don’t have to make a perfect square. Perfect square is only needed when you want a perfect commandmap.
Did you use the SunPlug correctly? Plugins->SunPlug->ET-MapCoordinator->Get optimal mapcoords->Set

(XaNaX) #10

i download and installed it. it had no plug-ins in the drop down box i cant get any of my maps to run. i have a halfway decent map im working im not bad with the editor but i can not get any to run. it just freezes and crashes as soon as i hit the L button i have spawns set. i set the mapcoordsmin and max to what it says in the tutorial -64 320 320 -64 or whatever it is i read somewhere else that that was someones problem that was causeing it to freez at limbo menu.

Does NETradiant need the NET for the plugins to work? the computer im using does not have the net on it

(Destroy666) #11

Because you didn’t download ET pack.
You can download it here: http://www.4shared.com/file/GZ_tsjIm/ETmappingpack.html

(XaNaX) #12

alright i downlaoded some other version and it had the plug-ins and setup for ET but is this pack something extra? i downloaded it but its a bunch of files not a exe. where do i put them? also is there and alternitive to use for the gen2ksurf or whatever the plug-in is called? sorry for askin so many questions im just getting on my feet with all this

(Destroy666) #13

This is a mapping pack, it contains files which are needed for NetRadiant to modify ET maps (NetRadiant doesn’t support ET by default). You need to put files from NetRadant folder to NetRadiant folder on your PC. The same goes for etmain files - you put them in etmain folder on your PC.
Gtkgensurf plugin isn’t the pack if I remember correctly, but there are better applications for generating terrain (EasyGen and FATE). You may take a look here http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/showthread.php/1270-Tutorials-and-et-mapping-resources?p=359007&viewfull=1#post359007

When you compile, read the lines, you’ll find the coordinates:
BSP bounds: { -4408.000000 -4408.000000 -96.000000 } { 4408.000000 4408.000000 1568.000000 }

In my case 4408, a perfect square so easy to put.

Thanks for the links  I will probably map my next one on NetRadiant, will make the terrain on Fate and do some shadering with the SimonOC tuts.

EasyGen is better for begginer IMO because you can paint easily the terrain. But you’re more free with the SimonOC way, Warbell for example is shadered with this method, but it is really more advanced, and some shader knowledge is required I believe.

last question i have is in net radiant how do you select one side of a brush? and does anyone know a good shader tutorial besides the q3a one that comes with radiant? oh and a skybox tutorial

(Destroy666) #16

Just like in GTK 1.4…
For tutorials link look in 2nd post above your last.

(XaNaX) #17

got the sky box working and the suncord plug in works nicely, thanks
