Wish you told us the game doesnt work on ATI cards

(SanguineOutrage) #21

I had catalyst 11.5 and hotfix 11.5a installed. In single player I had major issues. Very sluggish, huge stuttering, virtually unplayable. Even on the lowest resolution setting and lowest graphics options possible in game and in catalyst.

I’m using a Radeon 4850x2.

Rolled back to 11.4 catalyst drivers. Single player and multi now run without a hitch.

I recommend all ati users try out 11.4 .

Also here’s a guide to installing gfx drivers: http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52502

If you happen to receive an error upon installing the video driver
“INF File Not Found”
Go to device manager > Under display adapter right click your video card > Update drivers > browse my computer > and select the ati folder on your OS drive (usually local C)

Hope that helps anyone having ati issues and no this will not fix server lag.

Running a SapphireTech 5850 on 11.2 Drivers w/ OC Phenom 955 3.84 I get some graphic fluctuating in open areas, but not game breaking. Rarely less than 40 FPS averages around 60.

I did end up turning AA off and Ambient Occlusion Off to get a better more stable FPS. And at 1680X1050 with AA off I was surprised at how good the graphics still were. Very little Jaggies as compared to other titles with AA off.

Maybe that helps for others as well.

Running an ATI Radeon 4850 HD, and the game wont even freaking start up for me.

(Armysblood) #24

Starts up on 5570 HD, runs pretty sluggish (30-15 fps) on the lowest settings.

Have you guys seen this?

ATI/AMD Users: Rollback to 11.3 - Bethesda Softworks Forums

Might be worth a try. I myself am on 11.5a (HD6950) and will let you know of any problems when the game unlocks on Friday.

(Armysblood) #26

I’ll give that one a try Singh400, thanks for the post!

(Seyyerin) #27

anyone heard anything with 11.3 and the blue screen issue?

(Josh7331) #28

I hope theres a patch soon this kind of breaks the game for half the community.

(esomonk) #29

I think i figured out the problem. ATI cards forces some kind of high end post processing effects and it cannot be disabled. Changing it in options does nothing. If you input “r_skippostprocess 1” in the command in game in the console it says it cannot be changed in multiplayer. If you use it in the main menu it works, and your framerate goes into the hundreds but if you try to start a game or join one, the post processing gets reenabled. So to fix it they need to unlock the command so we can use it in the game and run it at a decent framerate.

Running AMD HD 6950 2gb ram 11.5a, tried 11.5 and 11.4. Here is what I see with my LCD monitor on my keyboard. My GPU is only at 40% utilization during game and never goes above that. Something is keeping my gpu from actually eing fully utilized.

(phonixzero) #31

Im’ having the gridding problem with my ATI Card, http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24811 makes the game damn near unplayable and the devs dont have anything to say about it…

(wolf blitzer) #32

I was having horrible lag problems with the Steam overlay (11.5a drivers) I downgraded to 11.2 and the problems have gone away and the game runs like butter now.

(mR.Waffles) #33

I bought two copies think how I feel. I’ve got the nvidia open gl driver failure so I cannot even play, and my fiance is using an ATI card. That’s 100 dollars down the hole. I’m trying to get a refund.

In Doom 3 or other Id Tech 4 games, you would modify the shortcut to the game’s .exe file and add

+set r_skippostprocess 1

behind “C:\somewheres\brink.exe” (make sure to paste outside the quotes).

This may or may not work due to Steam, I’ve only done this for Doom 3 or ET:QW.

(wolf blitzer) #35

In Steam, if you want to add startup variables, just right click on Brink and bring up the Properties window… there is a button on the General tab called “Set Launch Options…” where you can add startup variables (instead of adding them to the actual exe in Windows)

ie: you can add +com_allowconsole 1
to make the ~ key bring up the console.

ATI 5770 here and i am having the same issue, from 50 fps in some spots then bog down to 11-12 fps in others, completely unplayable, i updated to latest drivers last night then just gave up in the end but haven’t tried roll backs, will post if i find a solution

(Cataphract) #37

5770 here; was previously on 10.10e. Updated to 11.5a and still horribly sluggish, though possibly not as bad as it was before. Have tried default settings trick, disabling shadows and post-processing, lowest resolution but still drops as low as 30fps (and this is using devmap without any AI or player models to draw).

(StarkRavinMad) #38

Are you guys using FRAPS for your framerate, or is there something within Steam that lets you display it?

(Cataphract) #39

In console (ctrl+alt+~)
com_showfps 1

(Übiquitous) #40

running crossfire 6950’s one card doesn’t get used at all the other only gets utilized 40% started with 11.5a

horrible performance rolled back to 11.4 on a positive note 11.4 will laet me run in eyefiniti (it’s 2560x1600 stretched but still better than before). but the frame rate is still terrible like under 15 fps terrible and thats with no AA. I know brink is only utilizing 1 gpu but even still one 6950 should easily push 40+ fps on brink given the engine it’s running. im leiterally getting half the fps running brink at 2560x1600 that I do running Metro 2033 at 3826x1600 on very high with AAA and DOF/Tessilation enabled. seriously splahdamage/AMD WTF guys.
