Windows 10 aka Windows Vista 2

(Adam) #1

Windows 10 is out, and if you are a gamer, you sadly have no chose but to upgrade due to DX12… But how is W10 as an OS? well… it’s… bad…

This dude incharge of Microsoft is an idiot…

Quick rehash with everything wrong with W10

Forced Hotmail
Unable to use 50% of the OS if you refuse to give Microsoft your info
Cortana
Edge
Having it so I have to go to the settings to enable Chrome to be my default browser, instead of doing it the old fashion way of click “yes”
Forced features… just like W8
No Charms… I liked them…
Start menu… pukes
Advertisments for microsoft products
No colour picking option
Dual monitor support gone…
Compaiblity issue with old games
Censorship when it come to work arounds for getting back old W8 features
SkyDrive
Everyone seems to love Microsoft for W10, yet they run WXP
Windows Defender keeps bugging me to use it… NO!
Being in Canada = Give me a ’ on top of my A’s

God… I could go on forever… Get W10, but not because it’s good, but because it has DX12…

Actually liking W10 so far. Even though they heavily focussed on “apps” I still like the smooth design. Also have been noticing that startup time has been reduced by at least 50%, which is even noticeable when using an SSD.

Also don’t see how you’re forced to use hotmail? Unless you mean the email application thingies in your start menu, but then again I removed those because you simply can.

To go through your list:

  • This is incorrect.
  • It’s only Microsoft’s apps that do this, and frankly they’re rubbish anyway; use the desktop versions of programs and delete the apps.
  • Don’t use it.
  • Don’t use it.
  • Default browser is one of the settings that carries over if you let it do that when you update, and frankly this isn’t a big deal anyway. Change the setting manually if you must, it’s not hard.
  • No idea what you might be referring to here, skipping several in the middle for this reason.
  • Disable OneDrive or just remove it.
  • I am able to go through this list because I run Win10, not WinXp. There are others like me.
  • Yet another settings issue, you really don’t like changing options, do you?
  • Another one I don’t get on account of being a Londoner.

So to sum up, a lot of your complaints here can be resolved simply by not using a feature you don’t want or by changing your settings, which shouldn’t be a serious problem. You only need to do it once, after all.

If you walk into a room and there’s a film you don’t like on, do you:

  1. Turn the TV off.
  2. Change the channel.
  3. Make a forum post complaining that your package is awful but you need it for Shark Week?

I’ll take those then.

You mean the forced updates? Yeah, that’s crap.

[quote=“Adam;15446”]No Charms… I liked them…

Aren’t charms just the app shortcuts (aka the windows phone interface) that are now in the start menu?
I’m not fond of the new start menu architecture though, I want the setup from w7 and earlier where I could organize my shortcut in folders as I please. And I don’t really like the flat look either.

Do you mean the automatically installed apps that you can uninstall, or the app store shortcut that you can take off your taskbar? Yes, the monetization model has changed so that it’s now focused on selling you apps like a smart phone instead of selling you windows itself, but there isn’t really any advertising other than some links when you first install.

I’m using two monitors on w10 as I write this. I have a different desktop on each one and now they both have the start menu.

True of pretty much any new version of windows.

They are a bit draconian about how you use windows now, yes.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t find windows 10 particularly thrilling and I’ve been having a bunch of real problems because I chose to upgrade instead of clean install (it does a bad job of transfering programs and drivers, breaking a bunch of them in the process such as my usb 3.0 drivers and norton antivirus). I’m going to have to reformat to fix everything. However, w10 itself doesn’t seem any worse than any other version of windows to me aside from the forced updates. It sounds to me like you just don’t like having to figure out how things have changed, which is fair but it’s also not 10’s fault.

Also, games will still offer support for DX9/10/11 usually. There are no DX12 exclusive games afaik and making a DX12 exclusive game would be suicide atm.

What OS you run is up to you. Nothing is forced.

[*] This is incorrect.
This is a huge one, if you are not logged into a hotmail account, that is all you will see.

[*] It’s only Microsoft’s apps that do this, and frankly they’re rubbish anyway; use the desktop versions of programs and delete the apps.

Yes… Only Microsoft apps… I guess you can say that… Search, it’s more of a tool, but yes. insider build Updating, yes. You know, all the apps that should just come without needing hotmail…

[*] Don’t use it.
HA! Yeah right… That’s like being tied to a chair and beat. Just don’t get beat… She won’t leave me alone… If you have W10, you would know this.

[*] Default browser is one of the settings that carries over if you let it do that when you update, and frankly this isn’t a big deal anyway. Change the setting manually if you must, it’s not hard.
But why is it 5 steps longer? It’s like instead of just pressing “Start” you had to go to press the CTRL key, then press Tab Tab Space, abc QWERTY, then a start menu will apear.

[*] No idea what you might be referring to here, skipping several in the middle for this reason.
Cortana, SkyDrive, Start Menu, Hotmail… we are talking about this.

[*] Disable OneDrive or just remove it.
You can’t remove SkyDrive… Microsoft made patches so that it’s hard to… or something, because it sure as hell is not in my program’s and features list, and there isn’t a file for uninstalling it…

[*] Yet another settings issue, you really don’t like changing options, do you?
No, I don’t like changing options. Why are things comming unboxed with options that need to be changed…

[*] Another one I don’t get on account of being a Londoner.
Microsoft thinks everyone in Canada speaks french, so they give you a bloody french keyboard.

You mean the forced updates? Yeah, that’s crap.

I mean how they removed charms, and forced me to use the start menu agian. I just got use to W8, and it’s like "LOL, Same, becasue now you can’t, and there is no reason for it. They can easily keep it in there.

No, Charms are the thing you get when you move your mouse to the top left. But yes, the menu is dumb, and the flatness looks flatter than my ex.

Everytime I turn on my PC “Hey, I’m Cortana, I wanna help, but you need a hotmail account first, here, let me throw a webpage of hotmail.com in your dumb face”
“Do you have Windows defernder on? Your dumb head should turn it on becasue some idiot over at microsoft said it’s great after doing a boat load of blow!”

Oh man… Black with blue lines, or black with green lines… Loving the freedom here… Just like vista!

I’m using two monitors on w10 as I write this. I have a different desktop on each one and now they both have the start menu.

True of pretty much any new version of windows.

I never had this issue with other version… Not even Vista SP1…

They are a bit draconian about how you use windows now, yes.

I am glad we agree on one thing.

I might sympathize more with you if this wasn’t a 100% optional upgrade.

If you are going to go back to your point of DX12 pretty much being required as a gamer, please let me know which games require it(because Dirty Bomb certainly doesn’t). Being a gamer doesn’t mean you have to use DX12, plenty of games will offer support for older versions of DX and again, as I said earlier, no game would be dumb enough to make a DX12 exclusive game for a long time.

Sorry for the skipping. DX12 gives a huge boost to graphics cards. The bench marks for older cards are crazy. The issue wasn’t that games are going to be DX12 exclusive, becasue yes, that would be dumb, the issue is DX12 is W10 exclusive.

My point is that if you have so many problems with Win10, don’t use it. It IS optional, and so is DX12. If you feel like the drawbacks don’t matter as much as the performance boost, then deal with your problems rather than complain about them. If you feel like the drawbacks are so big an issue you need to complain on a random game’s forums about them(which really isn’t a great place for that type of feedback, Microsoft might appreciate it more), then maybe you should just revert to Win8.

So if you are looking for a solution either go back to Win8 or Go through your list of problems and fix them. Complaining doesn’t really help anybody besides let you vent.

I got told…

I don’t even have hotmail and it works fine.

You can search just fine without giving any data to Microsoft or having hotmail. I know, because I do.

Cortana has never once attempted to communicate with me in any way. As mentioned in my original post, I do use Win10. Your statement is inaccurate.

These are all settings issues. Changing OneDrive not to autorun takes all of 2 seconds. You can manually tell Win10 which keyboard you’re using too. It is entirely unreasonable to expect all of your settings to be selected via telepathic prediction - every new piece of software is going to need some configuration. Operating systems are no exception.

Don’t think W7 > W10 really. W10 is faster with a more smooth design and it’s a free upgrade.

(Adam) #14

But why should I have to? Why isn’t SkyDrive an optional thing? Why isn’t there French Canadiam and English Canadian. There is no reason to merg French Canadian and Englisg Canadian together…

The “Smooth design” looks like a gay Windows 95. Also, yes, I said gay, if you have an issue, you can talk to my husband… so shush.

(Edzer) #15

OneDrive is optional, you can turn it off. Just because it asks you if you want to use it, and because it loads on startup doesn’t mean you have to use it. And I think I’m not the only one who doesn’t care about Canadian keyboards. Man, your Canadian keyboard rant reminds me of the Southpark episode “Canada on strike”.
