window texture?

(cicero) #1

Hello! (again… :bump: )

One question… I’ve placed windows in the map I’m working on and put glass in them, (good thing - looks more realistic…) but should I add a texture to the glass? As it is right now I’ve put a brush into the holes in teh walls, added the caulk texture to it and then rightclicked on mouse and changed a few things like: health 1, sound glass, type glass, and so one. Will this do? Will it look like real glass? Have like 64 glass windows or so… LOT OF BREAKING GLASS TO DO!!!

Don’t use caulk. I know it’s see through and all, but it has other issues. If you really want invisible glass then use clipweapon. I would however suggest using a proper glass etxture so peopel can tell there’s glass there. SFX folder has a couple (safetyglass and tramglass) and therer are other more opaque glass textures under village and town.

Any hint for a good glass texture that vill look something like the windows in radar? Must suite a map with daylight or night in a tempered enviroment, that is no winter or dessert condition…

THX!

Military_wall has a shader in it that looks quite similar to the windows in the railgun hut. I can’t quite remember the windows in radar off the top of my head, but they are probably similar.

…oki…thx…but don’t they have snow on them? I’d like to be able to see throu the windows but I also want the glass itself to be seen. Thx! I’ll try those you mentioned…

If you just want glass that is seen but also transparent, use the ones I mentioned in the SFX textures folder.

Found textures in the village folder as you mentioned but they have a pieces of stone on them as well… I want a texture that is 100% glass…

Any suggestions?

He didn’t mention the villiage folder at all, he mentioned “sfx” and “military_wall”

Ahh… THX! Got a texture that will do, the one called class. I can still see throu the windows and at the same time see that there is a piece of glass in teh window. Could do with another texture where the glass itself where slightly more “pronunced”/visible but never the less it works! THX!!!

One thing, when adding a door texture (or box for that reason) can I just put it on and it will automaticly center itself or do I have to do as I’ve done so far which is: I make a brush and moved it up and down, left and right untill the texture gets centred on the brush…? Are these texures so smart or is this the way to do it?

THX once again for the tips on the glass texture…!!! Looks quite good
My map is slowly but surely getting togetter…!

for glas: create a nodraw brush then put on the sides: texture->sfx->glass
and voila

Just added the glass texture on to approx. 20 window out of maybe 64 and suddently my FSP has droped enourmously in GtkRadiant… Is this something to care about or can I just ignore this as it wound affect the game play?
THX!

Sounds like you have an old graphics card. I think some of the older cards don’t like transparency much and will run slower. The effect of regular glass textures in ET the game is quite small and you can quite easily texture 60-odd windows with glass.

Well thx I’ve already solved the problem. As I have a nVida Gefore Ti 4600 128 MB, I didn’t belive it to be that… The thing that solved the problem was to put caulk texture on all sides that aren’t visible in my map… Learning the hard way is easy…
