Will we one day see a matching system based not on level but on skill?

I’m level 6. I have the skill of a level 2 at BEST. I haven’t played a shooter since the very arcade bullet sponge of Starwars: Battlefront II. I understand this is beta this is not the first worry, but yeah I’m here trying to relearn how to play, and well a single tutorial as well as 5 short levels of other noobs does not cut it. As soon as I was thrown into the 6+ lobbies I was screwed. I just hope down the line there will be a place for people like me who really like everything about the game, but don’t have the skill level for it to start actually getting better.

Well, there isn’t a matching system that is going off of level. Those are just Max level 5 servers that are around to allow new players the ability to get acclimated to the game without having somebody who has vastly more time in the game to come pub stomp them. Despite your admission that you aren’t improving I’m sure you’ll get a handle on things.

If you do Ranked the system does try to match you up with players of a similar skill level. However, I am not sure that would be your best option.

Good luck!

Matchmaking is not based on level but rank. But even that is currently broken. Me and my friend are cobalt 3 and 2 and we get played against level 5-7 low gold high silver players 90% of the time. Either because no one is that high of a rank, they system sets me with lower people ignoring my ranks or it only search for cobalts for like 5 seconds before putting me with anyone rather then doing the smart thing and waiting for enough cobalts to join into a queuing.

Games like this with ranking will always have ranked problems, due to the different skills of different people. Someone could be an W:ET vet, and still only be level 2, but crushing everybody. Somebody (like me) could be level 9 but mid scoring all the time, because I just level up by playing, not by being good.

As for the actual ranks, it’s most likely a cause of player shortage. In League of Legends people in Challenger rank (highest) have to wait upwards of an hour just to get into a queue with other challengers because it is so damn empty. I wish it had TF2 esque system of showing how many people were searching, and how many that were searching were compatible.

Skill is relative and can’t be measured.

How do you measure skill? K/D means nothing in this game. I can snipe all day and get a perfect K/D, but if my team still loses, I suck.

You Play against all kinds of players over and over again. keep track on your win loss rate and have a I on the game/support/combat gains per match. And maybe even take stats like accuracy time to live into account. And then sort players based on how they fare into a laddersystem. People that are constantly good in all those things are on top those that fail are at the bottom. There Skill tracked.

Anyways to the OP, keep in mind that the casual/quickjoin modes have no matchmaking. Just take your time, the open casual servers are free for all. So you will face players that are better, roughly as good as you and that are worse than you. Try to play as good as you can, observe what better players do, that you don’t and mimick them. Also try to support your team, with non combat things like healing, giving out ammunition This not only helps them it also gives you XP. Read some of the Guides that are around or watch some of the streams/youtube videos that are around.

Competive would be a good place to start normaly (since it matches you with those of your skill level) but right now it suffers a catch22. The system needs a large amount of players to function. If only a few play the system can’t match you with the right people. Which puts you off of ranked worsening the system further. Granted the server bugs and Daily mission bugs don’t help either.
