Will we ever see the PC version before launch?

(Free2game) #1

All of the videos online seem to be the “360 version being emulated on a PC” that we keep hearing about.

Wasn’t it the PC version been played with 360 controller?
Wasn’t it the PC version been played with 360 controller?
I’m not sure exactly. I remember hearing it was the “360 version being emulated on a PC” thing. So I’m not sure if it’s reduced graphics too or if they’re the same on each platform. I’d like to actually see the PC UI and hear if the control code is different and if the PC version doesn’t have that 30 FPS cap that Quake Wars had. Laggy console controls + 30 FPS cap = no buy for me.

(tokamak) #4

There’s no way of telling what version was being played. The control overlay is easily changed. The most probable is the pc version due to the ease of making new builds for it.

(DarkangelUK) #5

All footage from EGE was PC played with a 360 controller.

Lets rephrase the question then.

Will we ever see PC footage, with PC controls (M+KB), PC UI and competent players before launch?.

I understand the need to appeal to console players but it would be nice to also know what sort of differences (if any) to expect when I buy Brink on my platform of choice.

Im a dev. No, you wont.

(Miki) #9

Quake wars doesn’t have a 30 FPS cap… The engine tries to decrease graphics dynamicly to ensure a stable 30FPS. Put your settings lower or play it on a better computer and you’ll see that it will probably try to render on 60 frames, and if you on a position with great vieuw distance it’ll drop to 30, if it can’t hold that it’ll decrease texture quality (megatextures thingy)

Lame. Only because it sounds like the epic built for console and pc is the leftovers. Please let that be just some wrong judgement call because I really the previous work from Splash but hate how others are screwing around.

(Vaporman) #11

I seriously doubt you will find significant differences in the versions. Aside from exclusive content for each, maybe?

(Cankor) #12

probably meant 30 fps animations

The silence is deafening. It could mean one of the two:

a) Splash Damage is now completely controlled by marketing department and has no voice of its own.
b) PC version has been dropped, but they would prefer us to keep talking about the game.

I don’t know about you, but for me mouse and keyboard is the PC. Technically, you can plug in a mouse and keyboard into a PS3, but no dev expects them to be there and they don’t care. The environment when you have a high precision controller (mouse) and another one with huge number of buttons (and thus tons of different commands) has resulted in unique game genres. Take that away and you get a console.

And I think not showing the game played with m+k is a problem. Splash Damage may be an experienced developer with PC roots (PC devs in the company are now a minority it seems). But if they think they can get everything PC-related right without any feedback from community it’s enormous arrogance or neglect. Expect more surprises like inflexible interface, console grenade button, possibly no grenade cooking (they talked about it as if it wasn’t a given), poorly scaling graphics…

(Slade05) #14

To use a ton of commands you need a level of customization unreacheable for consoles.

Way to over react…

Just be thankful this isn’t a Nintendo title where we get zero information till about a week before release.

May be SD learning from CoD makers.

Anything that matters is a good sales, after all.

P.S. thx to tokamak for image

Please Wait !..[Waiting mode on !] …
… Waiting in progress !

wait so long …!!!

(SockDog) #18

I agree that this seems a lot more to do with Bethesda marketing which is a shame because for every calculated screen shot and exquisite video diary there are a ton of people waiting to tweet, FB, Irc, Blog etc etc about some new footage which could be dumped right onto YouTube.

That said, my interpretation of Badman’s post in the other thread was that there is plenty of time before release to get the PC oriented footage out there. If true, we still have to wait but it will come before the game does.

As for the post that said why is it necessary. Well for me I’d like to see if the game is receiving tweaks based on the PC’s obvious differences to consoles, such as Monitor vs TV FOV and UI sizes, control options given you don’t have to bind everything to a controller. And of course just seeing how the game flows on a PC compared to that of the console footage already released.

(LyndonL) #19

Should be able to change FOV with CVARs though I would imagine.

(SockDog) #20

Almost certainly but then again if the default (read: tested) FOV is the same as consoles it wouldn’t be surprising to see PC specific bugs and artefacts appear when you start changing it. And I say this totally understanding these are tiny tiny things but that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be appreciated to see in a video that hey 110 FOV works great, and oh the HUD can be scaled to better suit the closer position of a PC gamer etc etc.

Anyway I’ll sush now.
