Will we eventually have user hosted servers?

Think Minecraft or Team fortress or cs:go, join using an IP address.

I’ve hosted both a TF and MC server in the past. (No, not a hamachi lan server, and true public server with fowarding and stuff.)

I want my own “No dumb rules” server!

Are LAN Parties possible?

I like using the debug commands to play with all the different guns in the game. Is it possible to play LAN with friends? (Well, many people said that testing out mercs/weapons before you buy was impossible, but someone figured out a way.)

God do I hope so.

Community servers and community creations can boost a game’s lifespan for years. It gets extremely tiring playing random games with random people who have no connection to each other and no obligation to get better as a community does - where people make friendships and rivalries, speak with each other, and all that.

Having played thousands of hours of TF2, the one thing that kept me going for so long was meeting great people, on community servers big and small, and actually having a reason to play that wasn’t just “let me get my x for the day/week and then log off”.

Dirty Bomb is sorely lacking in this.

Well, not gonna happen any time soon. When you ask devs about hosting option, you got no response or a simple no since day1.
So don’t dream to much about SDK(mod tool), fun maps and mods like counter games

That’s another reason why DB will die. It’s so obvious that Splash Damage doesn’t care about its community, I’ve seen a lot of interesting things here and never once was a dev here to answer or discuss.
Community servers are also a very good way to fight cheating since admins are often playing.
Instead of that, nothing is done, we don’t know why we can’t have hosted servers among many other things, the players can only speculate meaninglessly. I was optimist at first but this game is nothing more than a poor and blatant cashgrab, instead of saving the fast-FPS genre it’s killing it. Such a waste.

at the moment server binaries are a no go, Private Lobbies should be available by release

Community servers aren’t even in TF2 anymore. The only ones left are big huge community servers, with all the little ones dead in the water. Why? Quick play, and official Valve Servers. Quick Play is toxic in 90% of games that use it.

Also this is the Nexon forums. If you go to the Splash Damage forums, I’m sure you’d get more devs answering to things.

And the devs do communicate, it just isn’t very effective or coherent, so usually it’s by word of mouth or by Faraleth’s stream summaries. They do care about the game, but obviously the game doesn’t magically fix itself after a week of complaining.
I also don’t see how this is a cashgrab, there isn’t much incentive to spend money yet, it’s usually the opposite for Nexon games.

I’ve done Dirty Bomb at a LAN… our strategy with 12 people was to connect to an empty server all at once. The servers quickly fulled up with randoms (in under a min), had to try a few times before getting all the crew ingame. Not ideal.

I believe they announced in the latest twitch stream that casual private lobbies are going to be introduced.

(Faraleth) #9

@Mrlong2 They have announced the creation of private servers (hosted by Nexon) WILL be a feature coming in the future, however they have NO PLANS to allow people to host their own private servers external to Nexon servers at this time. Sorry! :s
