Will there be P2P for PC?

(hamstein) #1

Sometimes I just like to pick up and play a game. I don’t care what I’m put up against as long as it’s a partially full multiplayer match that’s not gonna end in 5 minutes I’m happy.

Sure you have mods like when people wanted dedicated servers for CoD and Black Ops gave us some, all the mods sucked or were just 1000000XP/Cash mods.
The only game I’ve played with decent mods has to be CS and maybe Wolfenstein, but that’s differing from the point.

In L4D you can do matchmaking; will this game have it on PC? Will it also have P2P?

There may be matchmaking…but multi-player is handled by Dedicated Servers. Whats wrong with connecting, finishing a 5 min. game(as warm-up) and being ready for a complete new match? Also, just right click on a server and look at the scores(server info). If everyone has a low score, then the match just started.

Until the summer starts I live in Malaysia that means that I get very few servers if any with under 300 ping. P2P would be a dream come true for me seeing how ironically MW2 was the only game I was able to play without lag.
Though once the summer starts I can stop being selfish and hope for dedicated servers once I start college; as long as I’m not busy studying or partying or whatever it is people do in college. I’ll probably end up making my own bong and smoking shisha in the park all day.

Though how do I make a shisha bong? I could buy one from the restaurant I’m a regular at though dunno if I can get it through security.

I’m glad you asked, as this is the Splash Damage Shisha Bong forum, and we have many experts in this particular field ready and waiting to assist you.

Thank god for that! Since I don’t speak Arabic it’s rather difficult to communicate with the people at the restaraunt, this should really help me out.

Don’t they speak Malay in Malaysia though? Where abouts are you anyway? I was in Sabah last summer

Don’t worry about customs, I got a machete back through 4 airports from Malaysia…

I’m American and everyone speaks English (since there’s chinese, indians, malays and arabs they all need a common language) anyway so I get by.

I got a spiked ball-on-a-chain flail back from Germany to the United states in carry-on luggage, but that was well before 2001.

Malay is pretty easy to pick up, although I’m really rusty now. Most important word I learned was tandas

Stop confusing p2p with matchmaking.

He didn’t:

if you can’t make your own bong by now I’m surprised you’re allowed to travel alone, let alone go to uni

Why does he examples L4D as having matchmaking and then asks about brink having P2P then?

(Seyu) #14

Herandar, you use that flail for clearing out rodents or is it just for intimidating neighbors?

(hamstein) #15

Cause L4D has P2P and matchmaking along with dedicated servers.

(system) #16

Make up your mind, do you want p2p or matchmaking?

P2P works better with matchmaking :stuck_out_tongue:

(LyndonL) #18

No it doesn’t. L4D uses matchmaking and dedicated servers. Works wonderfully.

p2p is not something that is desirable. Even if you don’t have servers located close to where you are, I can’t imagine there would be a huge number of players with computers powerful enough to act as a listen server. MW is probably an outlier in this respect, as it had just so many people playing it that there were probably a bunch near you that could host their own server and play without lag. I doubt brink is going to be that big, so the result of a nearby listen server would be just as laggy as a far off dedicated one.

That said, in every PC game w/ dedicated servers that I’ve ever played, you can always start your own listen server. So in a sense you can always get p2p, just not sure if someone will join you… :stuck_out_tongue:

Also, most of the time you can filter to use dedicated servers or not on PC. Since SD seems to be very good on the customizable game experience, I expect that would be in there too. You’d probably have to rely on other people (or yourself) setting up a listen server though.

I’ve got cats to deal with the rare rodent and more frequent lizards. My brother was swinging it around like an ass right after I got it, and managed to smash his own leg. I use it when the nephew is not listening.

Now I use my shirasaya for general yard work, trimming trees especially.
