IdTech 4 is going open source shortly. Rage will ship with the full idstudio implemented. Carmack has gone on record saying its a shame the mod community is drying up because it means less talent to draw from. What are the chances that the editTools for Brink will get released? I understand that the game is using hashed file names to shave a few MB’s and MS here and there. The navigation system can’t be that complex - its likely just a variation of the ‘hurdle’ volumes COD4 uses with class restrictions.
Brink has so much potential but it is dying. Even this free weekend on steam has not drawn tons of players in. Release the client code and tools. It might be complicated and obtuse to work with - but games with mod support always last longer than those without. If the game has a longer shelf life it means you can sell more DLC. Heck, run a competition for mappers to create levels - with a narrative backing - and take the 4 best submissions and release them as a DLC for the consoles. You make money and the mappers get recognition.
As it stands right now the .sdpk2 format has been cracked and static analysis of the actual levels is underway. Once the IDTech 4 source code gets released its a matter of months before an engine project gets the brink content up and running. It is going to happen one way or the other. Bethesda is very friendly to modding. Just please release the tools as totally unsupported software. It will be a benefit to your company in the long run.:infiltrator:
