Will Game ship with CD's or DVD?

(Sauron|EFG) #41

That only means someone is making more money on the DVD edition, not that it’s cheaper to manufacture several CDs (how many?) than one DVD. For all we know the CD edition (if there is one) may get a higher price…

Depends how many CDs there are :stuck_out_tongue:

(Apocalypse) #43

And you do not have a DVD-rom? :???: :banghead: :bash:

(bandit5k) #44

I have a large chunk of metal and a fan on my CPU.

(bandit5k) #45

Okay, so sorry for double posting, too lazy to edit.

But seriously…That’s a good machine AND YOU DIDN’T BUY A DVD ROM DRIVE?! I just recently picked up a DVD-Rom drive from Play.com and it only cost me like £25.

Also, I imagine games WILL become DVD only at some point, just like what happened Floppy Disks and CDs. As DVD’s become cheaper to produce and DVD drives become more common (Like they are at the moment) then there’s no need to have to run two processing lines for the same product…I think.

(bandit5k) #46

Again with the whole not editing thing.

I payed more for my CD version of UT2k4(Right one?) than the DVD version cost.

1 DVD Vs 6CDs(I think it was 6…)

The DVD is clearly cheaper to produce…Atleast in terms of materials.

(ParanoiD) #47

€ 10 :stuck_out_tongue:

Ok thats not new, but come on, thats only 1/5 of the game… You even have a DVD Burner for just 40 euro’s these days…

(odium) #48

You can buy DVD Roms for as little as £5 in the UK. Thats not a lot of money at all.

TBH I think its about time id software and people started seeing the “DVD” thing better. When Doom 3 shipped they moaned that CD’s were good, but people HATE CD’s. Sure, they work on every computer, but PC’s for the last, what, 6 years, have had them as standard? And at such a cheap price, it doesn’t hurt at all.

When you get to the stage where you need more than 3 CD’s, thats when its time to just say “Sod this” and release it on DVD only. If your a fan, you’ll upgrade, simple as that.

(Got-JuicE) #49

Oh ya I’ll upgrade, I wasn’t complaining just wanted to know, just so if it was on cd I wouldn’t have to worry about going out and buying one, but if it’s only on dvd for sure I will get a dvd for my computer, this game looks too good to not get it.

(Wils) #50

Just in case it hasn’t been made clear: ETQW will come on a DVD. The days of retail games on multiple CDs are numbered… and it isn’t a very big number. Or something.

The days of retail games on multiple CDs are numbered

Thankfully.

(McAfee) #52

WTF!? I just bought a brand new flioppy disk drive for this game :banghead:

The game should come in a nice 8gb flash USB drive,
that way we don’t need to worry about unpredictable disk drives :moo:

(Floris) #53

Unless you don’t have a USB port! :[

(Joe999) #54

the game should absolutely come on a memory stick, best would be if it would come on the memory stick that was shown at E3. omg, that would be totally awesome

(McAfee) #55

IF someone don’t have a USB drive, their computer must be older than a Pentium 3, which should be below the MSR.
IF they have run out of USB ports, there is always something that can be unplugged. Another option is a USB hub.
This could also double as anti-piracy counter measures.

(bandit5k) #56

The game should come on sheets of A4 paper, just to make it ultra compatable.

(Zyklon) #57

Yes, with the machine code printed on it. I suggest the arial font, size 8 :moo:

(bandit5k) #58

Size 8 would be unfair for the people with bad eyes. My suggestion would be Size 72 in Tahoma. Hell…Just stick one character on each A4 sheet.

That’d solve the Compatabilty issue, and probably get rid of that “tree” problem the world is having.

(kamikazee) #59

For that matter, my P2 333 MHz allready had 2 USB ports, so that’s WAAAY below the MSR. I guess the best 3D card in that thing was a TNT2.
