I guarantee after a couple of hours of play, youâll see exactly why some people are unhappy with Brink. Although the vehicles and larger maps do change the situation considerably, ET:QW feels so much more playable and addictive itâs pretty surprising
I find it tough playing against the current player base, because theyâre pretty skilled and experienced - but itâs still far more enjoyable than Brink in my opinion.
I believe that anyone who calls brink repetitive is playing with bots and has no friends in their friends list to talk to.
Hey now. Iâm playing Brink on pure botmatch and I like(love) it.
As for the concept of ârepetitionâ, ALL game is repetitive, I think the idea is how to make those repetitions fun. Something that most people want to have in the game.
The repetition comes from being forced to work on the objectives and go through all the choke points over and over again, wich causes mass dying. If you play TDM you can run around as you like on the map and you arenât forced to run to a damged and fortified maintainance bot.
No one can wait for you on a distinct route on TDM, except on the spawn exit.
Maybe you like to not concentrate on an obj, 3 out of ten times, but if doing so I allways have the feeling of contributing to the teams loss. And in fact I do. I dont want to exit the whole game only because I wanna play TDM after the 5th mission. I want want to go to the server list and choose my play mode accordingly. But with Brink as it is now, you have to completely exit the game and start your favorite TDM shooter.
Please, please, spare me this CoD bull. Iâve never played Cod, MoH or BF:BC2 in my entire life. I wanted something different and I got it, but sometimes, only sometimes I donât want to care about an objective. And I donât want to exit the game to do so. Is this really so hard to understand?
Are you thinking you are someone special in mentioning CoD in this way? Its not like Draughts vs Chess. Its not like Cod is for the retarded and Brink is the shooter of choice for physicists with an IQ of 150.
But maybe it is, I canât judge that since I havenât played Cod yet, but you obvisually did or still do.
No but there wasnt any tdm in WET or ETQW and that was never a problem, you can play DM / TDM / CTF in the best game ever (IMO) for free -> Qlive, why would you want a âmediocreâ game to play your favorite mod?
I understand the frustration but these mods werent ever what SD intended, so itâs a bit pointless to ask for these, especially when there are already 45 threads about âMOAR MODZzZâ in these boards
No pun intended, I just say this is pointless.
Peace
Sry I missed to wait for your assessment of the worth of this thread before I opened it. This wonât happen again. Promised.
Reminder: This thread is about why ppl like me are still hanging around in this forum and not just leaving the game and this here.
And as I allready stated before; maybe I played Brink too much. I canât play Brink on a daily basis now. But I was looking forward to Brink as exactly this kind of fps that would make me want to play it daily. And Iâm sure that was also the intention of the devs. And Iâm only here to say, that I still like Brink, but they havenât achieved this goal with me.
I didnât wanted an average shooter. I wanted to play something new and fresh. I watched every dev vid dozents of times and expected something huge. I couldnât know how exiting or boring an objective based fps would be after a couple of hours of play time, since this is the first one for me.
Iâve read about ET:QW in a game mag before it was released but after that Iâve lost track of it.
I just heard of it again when I got Brink and enterd this forum here. Since I havenât âgrownâ with ET:QW I wouldâve to adjust myself to the relatively dated graphics.
if brink runs and looks similar to what it looks and runs like on my pc (i also have a 4870), then you will enjoy etqw.
i dont think it looks any worse. it may even look better, because there are large open spaces and some really kickass environments. the indoor environment is very basic though.
and its runs super smooth.
yea, and to the whole tdm discussion⌠i opened a thread about this a while back, aksing if there is any demand for tdm. i dont know if there is, but i think tdm/dm/ctf is needed. these are the very basic modes a shooter should have.
how epic would it be if there would be tdm/dm/ctf and objective game modes?
imho splash damage should have saved ressources, cut the ai development, cut the smart, cut the motion capturing for cut scenes, cut coding for automatic chatter and concentrate more on leveldesign and game modes. that would be awsome.
but now we have expensive produced cut scenes, everybody skips. voice actors paid for text no one is listening to. all the audio records in the game. waste of time, waste of money. but its to late to change this. that money is spent and its spent on the wrong things.
With all the âshinyâ sliders set quite high, I actually think it looks fairly sexy. Dated yes, but still fairly decent
Itâs more of an open terrain type engine - which tends to make the interiors look a bit bland in places, but itâs not too bad. Generally speaking - thereâs more than enough action going on to keep your eyes occupied
And its cheap, 'cause you donât need new maps or content. Wich by the way would be awesome too. nodding in your direction DLC.
Something Iâd also like is a real statement from SD about their recent goals and the future of Brink. I donât know how it is with you guys, but I remember a time, pre-release, when this Wedgewood guy and some of his fellas where all over the place. I saw so many interviews and off comments with those guys. But now it seems like they were devoured by a bottomless pit.
Its like with this PR guy from APB, Chris âDeumâ Collins.
well, there will be the dlc with a big patch and then youâll have to pray for future patches.
sales didnt go so well, lots of console players turned their game in⌠pc playerbase is less then a thousend. do the math on developing costs for patches, costs to run a 70 man company, and then calculate the income of a ~12 euro dlc for roughly 1000 people. its not an awful lot of money, and keep in mind that probably the minority of the playerbase will buy dlc. even if you add the console players to that, its not that much.
i dont see such a bright future for brink from that standpoint, sadly.
1000 active players world wide in a fps is basically nothing. Its the amount of people youâd get when you put two or three high schools together. What is the most played fps at the moment? And how many guys are playing that game, do you know that? Just curious.
according to steam it is team fortess 2 with something like 60000 players at the same time.
but i guess the cod franchise tops this, as it sold some million copies, but its not bound to steam, i think.
I have 164 hours on Brink according to Steam. Probably about 120 of those are online multiplayer, over about a month (late May to late June) on public servers. I enjoyed Brink while I was still âlearningâ it, but as I learned all the maps and guns, it didnât take long to see all the flaws the hardcore comp community found within the first few weeks of practicing and playing, and it didnât take long for me to get fed up with the weapon spread. I still like the game alot and donât plan on going anywhere. I might not play much now but I still hope for the game to improve, so that I can have more fun playing it. Thatâs why I will continue to contribute to the threads criticizing the negative aspects of the game.
