Why the Obsidian Vengeance pack was not a good idea imo

I feel like it was a mistake to bundle Aimee and an Obsidian card, where you will only know which merc it will be for after 5 weeks. This does not give players many options, since if you like the game enough you are probably going to want to play as the new merc asap. So you have the option to obtain the merc on its own, but then you miss out on an Obsidian loadout card. This leads to many rushing into buying the obsidian pack in order to get Aimee, so they can start playing with the new merc. However, fast forward 5 weeks and for the majority of people the Obsidian card is not going to be for the merc they want. I feel there would have been far more merit in having the Obsidian case as a completely separate purchase, since then players would not have been put under pressure to buy it earlier in the event if they wanted to play as the new merc. Having it as a separate item would also have meant that those who want the card later on in the event (or don’t want it) when they see which mercs are winning have the opportunity to and are not wasting money on buying a merc they already have. Just my opinion.

I think that having the opportunity to obtain an Obsidian for any merc is worth the price. I’d definitely buy it any time for any merc.

The bundle is obviously to make money. Want Aimee? Buy the card as well. Want card? Buy Aimee as well. Either way, unless you really really wanted both, you’ve payed more than you would buying just one of them.

Bought only Aimee when she came out, knowing I wouldn’t be regretting the desicion even if any of my favourite mercs would’ve won (or even still would win as Stoker has very small chance). Cases just don’t feel supportable business in the slightest for me.

You raise good points @SirFrancelot and I wonder why did either SD or Nexon or both (as we cannot know for sure who has most authority marketing/in-game store -wise) change course in terms of Obsidians. As the last one was set one for Phoenix and free for anyone who already had bought (money or credits) Phoenix prior the announced week, if they logged in just once during the time. There was still a week or so time after announcement to actually buy the merc to get the Obsidian. Oh and anyone who didn’t have him bought, got him for free as they logged in during it.

I think that was pretty solidly made event overall, dunno if they felt losing too much revenue with it and thus ditched such way of doing things this time.
