Why the long content hiatus?

(sentimentalDime) #1

Hey everyone, as you might have noticed, i have been absent from the forums for a very long time now, because i quit playing DB since november.
But that’s besides the point.

When i then logged into Dirty Bomb again, i was very surprised to see no new content added over the course of almost 4 months. Now, when i quit we got about 2 updates a month, one with balancing and one with content, and this, didn’t quite cut it in terms of content. So why was no new content added in 4 months, when back in november we’d get at least 1 new merc every month?

(N8o) #2

Everyone is probably wondering the same. I think about SD devs working 8 hour days 5 days a week, and I just kinda want to know what gets done. I haven’t seen a studio work this slow for a lonnnggg time.

(DirtyHarrier) #3

Because they aren’t working on Dirty Bomb, they’re focusing on Gears of War or whatever else.

(sentimentalDime) #4

Oh boy, if this is true, Splash Damage might just be the scummiest game developers last year.

But I thought that came out? I dunno I guess that was back then. I don’t know what Splash Damage is doing. Which makes me wonder what Miss Murder was moved to

(blisteringOwlNest) #6

Miss Murder was Nexon, not splash damage, she moved onto another game. SD are working on maps and the new merc, so we should have a big content update by the end of March (hopefully) perhaps with an event again, but that’s just speculation.

I’ve seen this before in a different game. My understanding is that the characters they have been released are already finished characters that require some adjustments that were pulled from early versions of the game mostly for money making purposes and to extend interest. Since all of the premade characters are running out they now have to create new characters from scratch which takes far more time they the previous release cycle allows.

Also the more features you add to the game the more development time it takes to expand those features. Maps and modes take quite a lot time to create and test, it’s hardly surprising they are running out of steam given the amount of developers they have.

I don’t recall ever mentioning Missmurder, so I’ll just gloss over that.
In my book, a “big” content patch doesn’t excuse lack of content for almost half a year, when they were able to in the past release a merc a month, plus the rare “big” (big is in qoutations because a map and merc really isn’t a lot to keep you going if it’s only twice a year) patch.

But if they are running ou of stuff to implement, wouldn’t that mean the game is finished and not in beta anymore?

(triteCherry) #9

You make more stuff, free to play games usually slowly die if no content is made anymore so new content is always being made. It’s just that you can’t make a merc from scratch in a month like everyone is used to when they kept releasing their premade merc reserves.

(watsyurdeal) #10

At this point they have to make new mercs, they’re not re releasing characters we’ve seen already.

Sooner or later though this game will be messy, too many mercs is not exactly a good thing.

Which is why we need more maps and gamemodes over any mercs. More loadouts would be nice though.

I rather them take there time on new stuff instead of rushing to get half assed broken updates that are broken or poorly implemented

(Jan S.) #13

SD is working on Gears of War 4 and also Dirty Bomb.
I believe there will be lots of interesting things coming soon. I dont like the wait. But I hope its worth it.

(Teflon Love) #14

No, for that they would also have to run out of major bugs to fix.

(MTLMortis) #15

They are in a bug fix cycle right now. There are 2 new maps that were tested but need to be textured and bugs fixed.

speaking of that, I thought the healing station glow bug and the mines/c4 falling under stuff or disappearing was fixed.

Because I experieced all of that last night. It was annoying.

(grandioseCutlet) #16

I don’t really know why people desperately want a new merc, we all know how most F2P games end, with tons of ridiculous features that the devs add “because people want new content”. I’m pretty sure some day we’ll have mercs shooting lasers with their eyes and flying all over the place. This day, I’ll quit the game, nostalgic of when the game was in a good state. But the later it happens the better, and I’d rather have bug fixes and balancing than new mercs.

(DirtyHarrier) #17

New content doesn’t have to be new mercs.

(jollyRacer) #18

@grandioseCutlet This game isn’t CS my friend. This is a class based shooter, so definitely new mercs have to be added while its still new. There’s only 3 engineers, 3 recon etc.

(Backuplight) #19

As far as I know the studio has different teams working on different projects. Not at all unusual - people thinking that just because Splash is working on one thing, they’re neglecting another, isn’t necessarily right.

That said, yeah - content for the game has been incredibly slow overall and they’ve always seemed very against a public roadmap. I’ve been busy with life and other games, but I’m still checking in now and then - eager for something to pull me back into playing

So ? There are so many threads about people wanting new mercs, obviously a majority of the people on these forums want a new merc, I’m talking to all of these people.

And anyway it applies to any new content.
