I like how every single thread here turns into an argument of some sort.
Why steam is a bad idea
âWhy steam is a bad ideaâ is an opinion.
Luckily the series seems to be dropping it⊠and why canât you update windows?
Steam is no longer a DRM.
Itâs a platform, a service.
I try to get all my games on steam, itâs an awesome all in one service and I honestly cant see a single problem with it.
It is still a DRM program and it has problems as posters have noted. It has enough positives that I find it beneficial if a multiplayer game uses it. Would be much less inclined to buy a non-sale sp game on it because the benefits are largely multiplayer interaction oriented.
You can play SP games in Steam without Internet connection. Also
- Why would you not have an Internet connection.
- Why would you want to play Brink in SP. The game is mainly MP focused.
Steam barely crashes and you can play in offline mode. Get a life Get Steam.
Because everyone likes the witch hunts I catalyze in hopes to expose me as a troll. If I can argue with so many people it must be me whoâs wrong, not them.
You keep saying that. You have a real life. You can just click ignore. You have better things to do. Someone forced you to have facebook. If youâre too good for all these things then think about why thatâs supposed to threaten me. I donât join forums for social acceptance, Iâm not going to change my thinking just so it makes people feel happy or get a good vibe.
I didnât explain how you were contradicting yourself because Iâm contradicting myself? Youâre full of clichĂ©s, especially when youâve just focused mostly on my sarcasm and none of my points. Yes, you did react dramatically. Everyone wrote a counter and you called it barking dogs. Like anyone who disagrees with you gets a negative connotation despite the ridiculous reasoning you have. Religion? Martyrdom? I asked that you re-think your idea and all you have are more allegories.
Does anyone have a real reason yet as to why Steam is a bad idea? Or are we done with tinfoil hatting in this thread?
Iâm starting to warm up to Steam

btw, âYouâre full of clichĂ©sâ , heâs French, what do you expect, they invented them
why would people have to accept anything? people didnât accept the ubisoft drm and now itâs gone.

I have one.It uses 240-250mb of my ram:D
Hehe, a cheap way to make you their fanboi
I agree with apples here. The reality of this world is, that all things that are good and free at some point, sooner or later, eventually become not free. And I believe it will be more so in the future, as the resources on our planet shrink and population increases. Everyone will be interested only in ripping off his own share of cabbage.

I would have to play offline if:
1 - If I have internet bills late and donât have money to pay them, then I might not have connection because the internet provider most likely will suspend the service until I pay.
2 - Because Brink most likely will have the best AI in the FPS market
But I will have some drawbacks, all the experience progress will not ever be updated into steam cloud, I will not be able to update the game and surely the multiplayer and coop unavailable.
In my case (and im sure others as well) Steam is the only way to get a game as soon as itâs released without having to wait for months 'till it arrives, is also cheaper since i dont have to pay for the shipment. So i love Steam
Iâd say that when it comes to DRM, Steam is the lesser evil. There would be a real revolution here if SD/Beth chose GFWL.

Still doesnât change the fact that Steam works offline just fine.
And those drawbacks have nothing to do with Steam. You still couldnât get progress playing only offline. And ofcourse you wonât be able to update the game nor play multiplayer.
Steam doesnât work offline, the game will but that has nothing to do with Steam, and he can progress as far as he likes offline, all unlocks can be garnered off or on line
Nail - Doesnât Steam like have an offline mode? But in the end it doesnât doesnât matter⊠as long as the game works offline (which it does) itâs all fine.
What I meant by progressing is that you canât get xp in offline mode and then jump into online with the same character (atleast I would think so).
YES, you can
you can level up offline and take that character online anytime you want
I havenât seen anything that clarifies how taking my friends offline files, copy-pasting them into my install and then taking my install online will be prevented
Hoping there is something in place
I wouldnât want to see âdownload this to unlock everythingâ files appearing on sites around the interwebs
for me, the only unlocks that matter are high capacity magazines, these will probably be early so I donât care
btw, why use your buddies files, just unlock everything yourself offline
Nail - are you sure? It seems like this system would be very easy for cheating.
Like Mustang said, just copy-oaste the files offline. When going online does the system check if the files are valid or something?
This could be even take one step further by just hacking/editing the files.
