Why remove devmap?

(Trivve) #1

This deserves it’s on thread. I bet I’m not the only one who noticed this.

I refuse to believe this is the reason:

Devmap is an incredible useful feature to play around and test stuff. For those unaware what devmap does, it’s a command that let’s you launch a map with cheat-protected cvars and commands enabled.

I’m disappointed.

could be to stop people from using it with P2P on PC

Lol, this sucks…

“Starts to doubt a SDK”

You were able to go 3rd person by typing some commands in the devmap.

Not sure if there’s any other reason.

Good work, Splash Damage. You’ve shown your intentions, allow me to show mine:

Your game is now finally dead to me. Bye bye.

(badman) #6

That is indeed the reason. This is just a temporary solution, though.

Thank you! Can’t wait till it’s back.

As for the reason to remove it in the first place, I have some suggestions:

Disable Steam-achievements when map is loaded with devmap
Disable XP-gain
Disable processing to challenge leaderboards (i guess this was done already tho?)

I think they already know how to fix it but it’s easier said than done though hence the temporary solution.

It also doesn’t have any impact on the possibility of an SDK as it is temporary but even if it wasn’t it doesn’t matter as the SDK uses a different game environment separate from the main game installation.

Lol,

simple thing:

Try to load a map with devmap…
then net_allowcheats 1
and you are ready to go to manipulte your stats…

i think thats why they removed it.
