Why not give us PUBLIC test servers?

(TheStrangerous) #1

TF2 used to have separate TF2 beta, and now 14 Days (You know which game I’m talking about) has Test Mode, where EVERYBODY can jump in, and try out new adjustments.

I worry that DB’s playerbase is too small for PTS. The only time I remember testing something in DB, was Dockyard in it’s early beta stage, made out of Legos. I know I could sign up for PTS, but wouldn’t it be better as separate public game mode?

you worry about a lot of things outside your wheelhouse, look within

YOU ARE IN THE PUBLIC BETA TEST

Afaik, DB’s PTS modes need lots of updates though, so it’s not really practical for every player to deal with more downloads for something they don’t have an interest in. And making the PTS more open in general is basically what they’re already doing anyways

I do think that since this game is supposedly open beta, it could deal with having less of a “finished product” vibe. More blockout maps for everyone would be a plus, but for finer, more constant tweaks, the PTS is still important.

This ^

There’s a reason SD will open for a larger pool of players on PTS. DB will likely get out of beta next year, and when it does SD needs more testers for beta features.

SD makes Private Test Servers within Public Beta Test.

Really, we’re into this “Exclusivity” BS?

(Nail) #6

not everyone is willing to do multiple large downloads, sometimes every day .
the Private test servers exist because the public ones are full of whiners who contribute nothing to the game and try impress other like minded amoeba with their “smart ass” remarks. You had a chance to join PTS and yet you didn’t, seems you’d rather hold court here. I’d work on the humour before you quit the fry shop.

Really, ALL GAME DEVS USE PRIVATE TEST SERVERS
lol

Haven’t heard “15Days: The Game” crowd complaining over large files to download. How large would they be anyway?

Alright, let’s see what other apologistic arguments will be launched, after DB’s full launch, supposedly launching on March 2018.

“BUT THE GAME IS IN FULL VERSI… ughh… it’s EARLY STAGES OF FULL RELEASE, EVERY FULL GAME RELEASE HAS ISSUES IN THE BEGINNING”
Yeah, as if DB’s a AAA game.

See the whine after whiners got a full thorough pass on Javelin prior to her release. That’s precisely what making the PTS currently close to useless; it’s totally out of the common rabble.

Steam is practical enough so you can just tick a box if you’re willing to participate to a beta program. A second install for test branch. If you’re good enough to do this, you’re good enough to block a download when you don’t want it.

Just let anyone connect for a few 1-2 hours on the test build, that’ll definitely make more sense than making envious half of the regular player community. And public test builds are probably the best communication you can provide to such a small community. Not only they could fire Shoe, but also this could resolve many communications issues they still have on every single move they do. And at least they’ll give the transparency to everyone, which is currently the biggest issues in their communication. You guys have the interesting stuff and thorough answers, pretty much everyone else have the childish shit they should not provide at this point, after 4 years of developing.

What bugs me the most is how they won’t let us mod the game, like a proper game should be moddable mind you (Look at any Source games, heck THAT’S UE3 we’re talking about! Look at UT3 itself or UT4 with it’s UE4 engine, devs have no issue with it), to goof around in our own maps, game modes and settings and etc.

Heck, I remember not playing CS:Source properly, but jumping into Zombie servers and ignoring vanilla gameplay completely… My first days of online gaming…

2 - 3 gig, I had one 6+ gig, also had a couple in 1 day, anyone COULD have applied to join PTS, those that did showed the interest required… YOU wanted to be part of testing, I pointed out everyone already is.

rental servers will be moddable to set limits, but that has NOTHING to do with your original whine now does it ?

(Nail) #13

if you really want to be part of PTS, PM Shoe with a request

Somebody’s been blowing corporate horns lately. SD fanboy? More like brainwashed corporate slave.

Makes too much sense, since nails and horns are the same material, just like hair.

Thanks dumb consumers, this is what happened to gaming, thanks to your “Free pass” attitude. No wonder indie strive… oh wait… looks at ARK, DayZ, We Happy Few, DB

One of the devs, (I forget which one, but I think it was LoveDuckie) said on Discord that they’d love to have community created content. But the in-house development tools are not suited to be released to the public as a SDK yet. They need polish and some rework first. The tools they have are also tied to how they do internal builds and can potentially be used to make exploits for the game as they are now. Reworking these tools will require resources and development time, which is not a current priority.

So it’s not because SD is being opposed to mods or community created maps, etc. It’s down to resources and priority.

Many of the developers are active and interact with users on Discord, so I highly recommend joining.

If the pts was open to public then we wouldnt be able to complain about not being in them.

Keep in mind, there are 7 continents (technically) and you have average 500 players per continent (it varies, yes, some more, some less). Unless have fun playing with high ping

Such number
WOW
Such skill variety
