I am all for FF being enabled. I was quite surprised it’s not “on” by default in competitive.
It’s like you can just mindlessly shoot and spam grenades like crazy.
Why no team damage?
You can’t balance around friendly fire. Nothing would change in that regard.[/quote]
lots of things change wtih FF on/off; spam has to be much more controlled, making stuff like airstrikes; lazer, arty more difficult to use = less powerful
The meta changes, balance doesn’t. And if people played properly so that FF was never an issue nothing would change at all except perhaps spamming someone planting with explosives to protect them.

well meta always adapts to balance, doesn’t it?
AoE mercs will be little less powerful (including fragger), shoot-em-up mercs will be a little more powerful.
I do agree that FF on/off is a huge change to gameplay, so its hard to predict which way balance is gonna go.
IMO, friendly fire would slow down the game’s pace and also result in breaking the balance the game does have in 6v6-8v8
-If private servers happen, I say go for it.
-Competitive play and 5v5 (if it is ever a pub option), I say go for it as well.
-I suggest in-game warnings given to teammates of incoming friendly air support, if friendly fire is implemented.
People need to look at things from both sides of the coin. On one hand you say “but people walk in front of me too often for FF to work.” Maybe those idiots would stop walking in front of shooting teammates if they died for doing it.
Also, can anyone explain to me why they’re against the OPTION of joining FF servers? No one is suggesting everyone be forced to play with FF, it’d only be for people who specifically searched for FF servers and knowingly joined one.
Let’s be honest, nobody has trouble finding a server. It’s not like every single server around is full. There’s no reason some servers can’t have FF enabled. I just don’t understand the people who argue against more options.
Just because YOU don’t want FF, doesn’t mean others feel the same way. I’d wager the majority would prefer FF off, and that’s fine. I’m not insisting everyone has to play with FF on, but why do some of you insist everyone has to play with FF off?
Some of us would like the option to join an FF server. This would not change anyone else’s game in the slightest. How hard is that to understand?
I too am surprised about lack of FF as an option in a very explosive heavy game. That statement might seem quite contradictory, but said mechanic exactly makes all kinds of “Fletcha’s stickies got too little CD, much spam wow” and “Nader’s stupid, spam nades evvry day” arguments weaker. With FF as said lot of times, spam would eventually occur less frequently. Accidents happen, no denying that. I do feel the mercs are originally designed so that the player has to keep in mind they cannot just blast that clusterfunk of a CQC hitscan wrestle with fragment-based gunpowder spheres.
While harsh mechanic for your average Joe more familiar with CoD like enviroment (not bashing anyone here, bear in mind) and occasionally frustrating for everyone around, it does higher the skillceiling by making spamming require more tactical approach, and that it can be used only in more specific situations.
This is marketed and supposedly focused to be a competitive shooter. FF belongs in quite a variety of competitive shooters, and DB cups & leagues do utilize it at the moment. If pubs and matchmaking lack the ability to test out said mechanic, it’ll be much harder transition from pubbin’ to scrimming and comp plays from there.
Definitely up for couple FF servers. Turning some minlvl10 servers to have said function would be good thing to try out and start with.
As a more casual player anti-ff, just a push that these servers must be seperate and hopefully never have a mission associated with them. This is primarily due to me playing proxy and I have absolutely no doubt that my fellow players will walk over the mines I place and they’ll blow up. It would be extremely difficult to continually communicate where mines are placed. At least with airstrikes and arty strikes, you have more direct control and timing of the strike and there’s some visibility of the strike coming in.
Friendly fire is fucking stupid, you know some idiot is going to abuse it or just not care and shoot his team mates anyhow trying to kill someone.
Friendly fire is the opposite of stupid as it significantly raises the skill ceiling.
Friendly fire and friendly player collision should be on in min10+ 6v6 or 7v7 servers and an option on the to-be-added private match/party function. Changes how much skill is involved using AoE ability use and improves the dynamics of 3+ player firefights.
At that level, people should know how to use a basic vote system to remove and/or report griefers.
Possibly set FF scale to .5 outside of competitive.
As in previous SD games, friendly mines would not be tripped, just like a Proxy wouldn’t trip her own mines. Still, they could be shot to explode and deal damage to everyone nearby. Worked GREAT in previous SD games.

I think this would be pretty much for granted that mines will not react to friendlies, but rather do damage if blown. When you think of it, after all turrets wouldn’t track and shoot teammates either would they.
