Why no Splash Damage website?

(nashslash) #1

Why no website? Is it me or why has the Splash Damage website been offline too long.

Surely any company with a release such as ETQW in 2006 now 2007 under there belts would have wanted a front end on the product in the form of a website? As least somewhere where the fans could go and read official announcements.

Ah, I get it. That’s why they are not worried about the website. Because, there have been no official announcements for ages. Apart from common hearsay and gossip on fans website there has been no word for ages?

So 2 questions please?

  1. When is the Splash Damage website back online (I can then read the official updates)?

  2. Or, when are we getting an update on ETQW? Be it on IRC or the forums?

Who needs the website when u got the forums?

(nashslash) #3

True, but I can’t find the official announcement sections or Update News sections in the forums.

I would imagine that they all a bit busy gettin QW done to trifle woth such things, either that or they just sittin aorund eating quiche!

Well its Activision that is promoting Quake Wars with the web page www.quakewars.com / www.enemyterritory.com . Splash Damage don’t have much to do with PR on their webpage, their webpage contains (or atleast did) info about Splash Damage (who is working at SD, what they have done in the past, contact info etc), its not about promoting upcoming games.

It’s in the works, but we’re hunkering down on other projects

you want annoucements ?
do what we do, make em up

The website will be up today or tommorrow. Since new year, the priorities down the business end (oo-er) of the office have been:

-getting a new server/hosting contract.
-getting the forums back up.
-catching up on the 4 months of work I’ve missed
-then getting the main website back up.

We’ve been tinkering with a new website, but I’ll just get the old one up and running for the time being and we can worry bout that later

Don’t worry about a percieved lack of news, we’ve just got our heads down getting the game finished.

(madness) #10

And that’s how it should be.
You can make your own screenshots after release and you see all the features etc, where’s the fun in reading about them :stuck_out_tongue:

Plus it’s never good to get too hyped about a game :expressionless:

Prognar, you should add an java IRC chat page akin to what I have on my website, so that people can jump right into the channel to ask questions. In fact, as we discussed the other day, it can be set to open multiple channels, so the IRC channels of the most popular mods could be automagically opened.

Just my $.02.

Isn’t that a reason NOT to have that on the site?

(mortis) #13

LOL, true that.

I guess that all depends on whether they wish to advertise or obfuscate the IRC channel. The nub inflow might be unbearable.

(Prognar) #14

We discussed setting up a java irc applet on the site to get more people in, but still aren’t sure if it’s a good idea or not. I’ll see if I can get permission to put it on for a bit and see how things go.

(bacon) #15

Why bother with IRC? You can just post Locki’s home and work numbers on the site and let him handle all of the questions!

(zeh) #16

Great, I for one can’t wait for all those people asking if there’s any news on the ET:QW to pop on irc.

PS. nashslash, we get updates on ET:QW all the time on IRC. Just the other day, we got the exclusive scoop that, indeed, SD is developing a game called “etqw”. And, according to one of the level designers, one of the game’s levels has “rocks” (that is, more than one rock). That’s first hand information right there.

(taken) #17

Don’t joke about the rocks! Rocks are very important. Its like the base of the game! No rocks=much swimming.

(kamikazee) #18

Well, it was actually more about “buttes”.

EDIT: I have mixed feelings about a public Java IRC applet. This would sure help reduce busy topics posted by people with tech/map troubles. However, I fear for the relaxed and rather unique chat going on in the channel being disturbed by people polling for more info. Which there isn’t, yet.

(DarkangelUK) #19

We’re wedgied in the buttes! Please send reinforcements!
