Why no female characters?

(Mattatuide) #1

Hi

First off really looking forward to this game and hope I get as mush enjoyment out of it as I did in ET:QW.

But as my wife and I were watching some videos and trailers we were wondering why no female characters in the customization?

My wife played a fair bit of QW with me and think she was a bit disappointed with this. For a game the one of the main features is customization why not have them?

If someone could give a me a answer it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Plenty plenty plenty plenty plenty of articles and speculation.

Either the game could get pushed back another year. Or no female characters. The reason it has the customization is because they spent a lot of time building it. They don’t have time to build those female models. And how would you respectfully build a female heavy?

Well Mattatuide, before the flaming begins for asking one of the most highly repeatedly asked questions here, and not looking for an existing thread…

There are hundreds of customizations per archtype and body type as the game is designed. This means there was a tremendous amount of memory devoted to these customizations. To add in female characters and stay at this high level would have meant doubling the amount of resources devoted to this artwork.

From what the developers have said in numerous interviews, something had to give. They either needed to decrease the amount of individual customizations, decrease the level of the artwork, or leave female characters out. And while they hated to do it the choice was leaving female characters out.

Hitting a high level of quality was, in their view the better decision.

Question rhetorically directed at Jess Alon and refers to tags in this thread. Thx4asking

Because they’re all in the kitchen.

J/p I’d like it too. Truth be told I play as a female in any game when given the choice (Mass Effect, Dragon Age, etc).

I don’t know If I would’ve liked to see heavy female model…

Honestly, I’m so super sick of this question. Every other FPS has no female characters. How much flak did BC2 get? How about Black Ops (Actually, did get one whole thread on the official forums)? Why is Brink the game where females take their stand?

(Herandar) #18

Also, check this.

Short answer: Women don’t walk or run like men. They would require separate motion capture, etc. for it to be done “right”.

Super-short answer: $$$.

customization? it’s in the op.

BioSnark is the patron saint and protector of the unknowing and those who refuse or can’t figure out how to use google. A search option in a forum or any other fountain of knowledge on the internet. And instead opt to sign up for an account on a message board (what’s the difficulty curve vs using google in that situation?) and then think about the time that takes to sign up plus the confirmation business plus waiting for a useful response from a grumpy board user.

Here is me typing “why no female ch” into google and what I got in the autocomplete.

It took google 0.15 seconds to give me 337,000 answers. It took me 11 minutes to give the original poster a link. ONE link. So lets tack on 4 minutes for sign up. and the 11 minutes it took for my ACTUAL response.

Going the route of asking such a common question via the forum instead of google, the OP took 6000 times longer to get 1/337000th of the possible outcomes.

But the OP did NOT know any better.
