Why my Brink is always laggy??

(mclarenpingu) #1

Hello everyboay!!
I have a problem of Brink smooth, I think my PC is ok for Brink, CPU i5 870, 8G DDR3, GTX560ti, Win7 64bit, and use nV lastest WHQL drivr 275.33?? maybe

but when I play Brink, I always feel a little laggy, in some place, especially in larger environment, I feel the screen movement is not very smooth, a little discontinue, but the fps number is 50~60 or 60~70 fps.
this symptom is not like the performance issue (like ATI system),
(I have another labtop with ATI HD 5650, becuase I don’t update the driver so it is very very laggy, the screen lags all the time (fps around 20~40).

i think this is caused by the engine, I remember the ETQW has the same symptom, the FPS is very hign, but the gameplay is not very smooth.

in ETQW there has some timing method to fine tune it, but it was not workble for me in ETQW

I think you can try QuakeLive or other FPS games, when we move the mouse, the screen go there where we want, no delay, but Brink is not, it always has a lantacy, I have turned off the mouse smooth.
is there anyone who can help me out?? this issue annoy me very much.
I like Brink so much, even some maps have poor graphic, I think the poor graphic is not very critical, but the game must be smooth, all the FPS game must be smooth, if the FPS is not smooth in fast PC, I think the player will feel so bad.

"I have another question, is the non-smooth caused by ID tech4??, I feel the Quake4 is not smooth enough, but the DOOM3, Prey, and wolfenstein are very smooth for me "

Thanks very much, I really want the non-smooth disappear!!

There are a few things to try. If you’re not familiar with editing your configuration files manually or comfortable with the console, a great tool has been written by sT0n3r:

http://www.rush-zone.com/downloads/gaming/brink.html

Main things to tweak:

Threaded Renderer should probably be set to 2 unless you experience problems. This lets Brink use multicores efficiently.

Turning off High Quality Post Process and Motion Blur also seems to help performance quite a bit.

Why is it that some crash instantly when enabling Threaded renderer

Hello GreasedScotsman!!
Thanks your information.
I have tried Threaded Renderer 0 and 2, it just a minor difference, when I use 0 the CPU loading around 53m and CPU load is around 49 in Threaded Renderer 2, and the difference of fps is less than 10.

I also turn off all the special effect like AA, blur, AO, HQ post effect…, the game is still laggy!

I think the problem is not my PC hardware, because the FPS value never less than 55, it always stick around 60

the reason why I feel strange is the fps never fall under 55 or (60), but the game still a little laggy.
maybe I am too nervous, but during the gameplay, it really not smooth enough.
I am a old PC gamer and play PC FPS over 18 years, I play almost all the good FPS game.
but the ETQW and Brink both have the same symptom in my experiment. I think my experiment is not the special one.
Hope this issue could be fixed or tweaked in the future, because Brink is a really good game but has some or many patchs to be perfect!!

it’s the ATI driver that causes problems, wait for 11.6 which is supposed to be realeased on 15th of june!

i got the same issues…

(deems) #6

Yeah - if he’s using an ATI driver for his NVIDIA gpu, that really would be a problem!

HA
I have already uninstalled ATI catalyst when I install the GTX560ti, I retire my HD5850 for Brink…Damn…

I feel strange because the FPS is 60 but in the screen, the game is not smooth…

Get a PS3. I vary rarely experiance lag. It is actually a lot less than other FPS played online.

(DarkangelUK) #9

I think he means performance rather than ‘lag’… incorrect use of the term.

yaya , sorry for my poor English, because English is not my first language, the laggy I means is the game performance issue, not the internet connection.
Are there another words to express this symptom??

I understand now. I was not trying to ignite the PC vs console war. I too had issues with performance on my PC almost two years ago. I got tired of having to upgrade evrything or buy a new PC every other year to play the latest games. I made a bold move and decided to go to console (PS3) instead. I have been very plased with the outcome. There is a little bit of a learning curve, but it satisfies the majority of my gaming needs at a much lower cost of ownership.

Finally, I find a workaround
“Turn on the VSYNC”

yes, in many thread, most people said turn off the Vsync, but this condition is your PC performance is not enough.
but if your PC performance is enough, and the FPS over than 60, you can turn on the VSYNC.
it make the screen more smooth, fps value is stable.

now I lower the resolution one level to 1280*800 with VSYNC
80%~90% gameplay is smooth, This is acceptable for me.
now I play Brink happily with a smoother gameplay.

but I think SD still need to improve the performance for both ATI and nVIDIA user
