Along with what others said, you have to look at it from another perspective. Making them Limited Edition makes them special. “Special” or “Collectible” or “Unique” are key words that spark people’s interest. Due to the short availability of these cards, they’re adding rarity and value to them. People will want to purchase them before they’re gone because if you know you’ll never have the chance to get something again, you’re more likely to buy it.
^This is the idea behind certain sales in the real world. Ya know, like Black Friday as a big example. People rush out on this one/two days a year to buy tons of stuff (even things they don’t want or need) because they believe they’ll never see those good deals again. Basically, just add a “limited” label to anything and you’re most likely to increase sales unless it’s a horrible product. Added onto that, the people that don’t purchase these skins will know that they’re rare, therefore valuable, and in the future when more are released for a limited time, they may be more tempted to obtain them!
So in short, this may be a good business strategy. Come out randomly with these limited edition obsidian skins and because people haven’t had the chance to buy anything like it in a long time, as well as wanting that unique factor, they’re more likely to buy it now. They know they can’t procrastinate so they open up those wallets and toss their money out!
*Not the best at explaining this, but it actually is a good strategy.
I can Agree with a lot of this, i’m picking up what your throwing down.
but i’m really curious if this is more sustainable than just always having the obsidian cards out for purchase.
me and my friends were actually put off by the fact that its a pre-determined loadout too. if this was just a skin I could apply to a loadout I already own I’d be throwing my money at splash dizzle.
not to mention all the new players who might start playing the game becoming completely turned off by the idea that they missed out on something cool and can no-longer get it. I don’t think limiting them JUST SO PEOPLE CAN FEEL ENTITLED is the right decision when there is already so little to buy in the market, splash needs to be expanding their profitable inventory not doing these flash sales.
founder cards I get, that can be super special but to do these limited sales all the time versus just having a wide selection of stuff to buy in the market? look at dota2 look at TF2 heck even warframe keeps primes up for sale for like 2 years or some stuff before they vault them (and they bring them back temporarily anyway) there is always stuff to buy.
the current loadout system needs to be dropped/ditched completely for something more flexible. separate loadouts and skins and make them both something you can earn
individually and make the skins a one-time use item you can apply to any loadouts you own or crafted.
short term cash grab VS long term sustainable profit. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ just saying
