Why isn't Phantom an Assault Merc?

(gg2ez) #1

Since it has been confirmed that Phantom will not be getting any recon-alike abilities, why is he still classed as a Recon merc? For obvious reasons he should now be moved to the Assault category.

(TheOrangePhantome) #2

Well maybe there’s a plot twist and SD are secretly working on a secondary ability. Or maybe they’ll just do it in the next patch and they’ll change his category.

(gg2ez) #3

Who knows? Perhaps they will pull another Phoenix-esque troll release.

(XavienX) #4

Probably because Phantom doesn’t have any offensive ability that does damage?

(Amerika) #5

Yeah, I honestly have no clue why SD seems to consider him a recon but doesn’t give him the same alternate ability of other recons. It doesn’t make a lot of sense and I hope it’s changed.

(sentimentalDime) #6

@Xavien Thunder doesn’t have an offensive ability that does damage and he is still (to my knowledge at least) an assault merc.

(Grave_Knight) #7

Should just give him is own classification. Or very least put him in Other (or Misc.) since he doesn’t really fit in the predefined roles.

(TheOrangePhantome) #8

Nah i doubt that’s the reason. Probably cuz he can flank somewhat well and pick off important mercs even tho you can hear him way to easily.

Well thunder’s a bit different TBH with him you can flash/stun your enemies and rush in and kill em.

(XavienX) #9

@sentimentalDime probably because Thunder’s ability inflicts other people and distorts their current state unlike the Refractive armor. And maybe, like Nader’s nades and Fragger’s frags, the collision prior to the explosion of their abilities can cause damage too.

(Vaasref) #10

His ID refer him as a “CovertOps” like the other recons.

Also @Xavien i’ve seen you play phantom and i wanted to ask you a question.
Which playstyle do you prefer to play with phantom?

#1 Using your cloak to soak up bullets and running at your target lining up your shot and taking it down. Pretty much the playstyle that most phantoms play with. Orr…

#2 Flanking your enemies picking of important mercs and distracting the enemy team in general. And sometimes having them chase you.

TBH i like the 2nd one more but i do a mix of both and i never do one way too much than the other.

@TheOrangePhantome Neither and both actually, the ones you’ve seen (my YouTube most likely) is like 2 months old footage where I just got my hands on Phantom, but yes I do like Phantom used to soak bullets up when necessary to escape or that my enemy only has a little health left or sometimes pulling out my gun during long range and there is multiple enemies. Flanking is always my favorite but yes I do pick important mercs to take out first like Rhinos or Fraggers that are demolishing my team or medics. But I really usually just take them all out if I can.

(TheOrangePhantome) #13

@Xavien Well yeah i do try and take em all out as well which usually goes well. Also i have watched some of ur vids but i didn’t remember ur playstyle which seems to be a mix of both like me. I was just wondering cuz there are a lot of phantoms which play with the 1st one only.

Remember July Phantom?
Theres your assault version

anyways, yes, SD needs to figure out what class he’s supposed to be and design him to be one. Changing him into an assault and buff him accordingly seems to be the logical choice.
